I finally have the parts to create a much better SS Gogeta (Fusion Reborn style) and SSB Gogeta than I had planned before. This will be 5 inch scale. Although the heads look a tiny bit large on these bodies, I believe that they will look better once I have improved the sculpt of the bodies. As you can tell in the comparison photo, the faces actually aren't all that large compared to other 5 inch figures.
I won't be able to start these for a while. I'm going to need to reorganize our apartment so I can get a work space for customizing sorted out. Right now there's nowhere to sit and work on things in good lighting... comfortably.

I still don't have space to comfortably work on customs in this apartment (specifically sculpting and painting in a well-lit area at a table), but I did start yet another WIP custom last night. I'll continue working on selling things and organizing things differently to create an area for me to work on things...
The Legend Creation bootleg normal Broly head is smaller than the legit Figuarts one. It's still a tiny bit larger than Irwin/Jakks heads, but I think it's close to good enough. When I repaint the skin, I might decide to sand the face a little bit smaller. Because the head is just balancing on the neck right now, it looks larger than it really is, because it is leaning forward or backward in the pics. First, I looked through my collection of fodder and tried to figure out which figure to boil and pop. I had these skin tones to choose from. I recall that I bought the middle Gogeta specifically for upgrading my old Tien custom, so I decided to start that upgrade right now and donate Tien's upper body to Broly, since Broly was very tan on planet Bampa. My old Tien custom used the same torso as the SS Goku on the right. The skintones don't photograph realistically. The one on the left is a bleached ghost... the middle one is a strangely real-human skin color (darker than the skin of characters in the anime) with nice shading... and the SS Goku has very strangely dark skin that would only match a DBGT kid Goku These were the lower bodies I had to choose from, so I chose the most abused one, that some crazy previous owner abused heavily.
Here's the result of boil and popping and such. The green ear is from the Dragonball Evolve SS Broly. The torso does not fit the Trunks' lower body peg, but that doesn't matter, because I will be increasing Broly's height, and I'll have to remake that anyway. Even though the camera isn't picking up the major skin-tone difference, I'm going to need to repaint Tien's head and hands to match his new torso and arms or he'll look strange in real life.
Here's my concept of what has to be done to get Broly to scale. He's very tall. I may not follow this plan 100%, because I will need to balance his height with another tall character (Piccolo, for example) to make sure that Broly doesn't stick out like a sore thumb in my collection. (Most of the tall characters aren't quite as tall as they should be.) I'll need to locate my old WIP SS Broly from movie 8/10, and make sure I don't make the DB Super movie one taller than that custom. It makes me ill to realize just how tall movie 8/10 Broly has to be to properly scale. An entire head taller than DB Super Broly, which is already going to need to be 3/4 a head taller than Tien! I don't think my old WIP is nearly that tall. Here's a photo of Jakks SS Broly with Jakks SS Trunks (the version I think is the best even though I hate the hair color) and Legend Creation bootleg Wrath Broly... but this Jakks SS Broly is unmodified. Extending this same body to the height he is supposed to be is going to be such a chore. I may decide to work on the Broly customs all at the same time, just to make sure I don't do something stupid I regret with regard to the size of them.

It's time to begin having fun customizing again! And to kick this off, I intend on making Caulifla, Kale, and Kefla this summer. As you can see, I've already started Caulifla, and I have the base for Kale purchased as well. I cannot tell y'all how many hours I have spent researching possible options for making these two fully articulated! (It's been a lot of nights of scrolling ebay looking at figures from other product lines). I was originally going to make them simply with DC Comics Justice League Unlimited bodies, but I decided that my faves from DB Super deserved to be fully articulated. Those JLU figure prices have shot up quite a lot over the last 10 years too! But... to be fair... what I've selected for Kefla is half the price of a SHF... so... articulation doesn't come cheap! Hopefully what I selected for Kefla will work out. I haven't received it yet.

Branjita So great, can't wait to see your work! What are you gonna do for the heads? You have a lot of customs to finish too... So cheer up!

I'm going to need to sculpt their heads from scratch. I do know someone local who has a 3D printer, but I don't want to do that for these girls I don't think. One, I don't like how lifeless and symmetrical most 3D printed stuff is, but also, I want to make sure these will blend with Irwin/Jakks figures and be exactly the right size. It wouldn't be good if the printed were too small or too large.

To begin customizing again, I wanted to start with something that I just needed to paint. I'm rusty with doing this stuff, so I wanted to do something I started forever ago and never finished, without having to sculpt, sand, dremel, engineer, etc.
As long as clear coating tomorrow goes well, I will be done with Kid Krillin tomorrow and maybe ready to post photos.

Caulifla and Kale look awesome. Especially the Caulifla, using a Beerus torso I see?

Yup, Beerus! I searched for hours on ebay over the course of a week or two, and there's truly no better base for Caulifla than Beerus. In other news, I have started working on finishing some other projects. One is Kid Chi Chi, who Adrenaline did the sculpting work on and paint job as well. Other than a chipped boot that needed the heel repaired, it was honestly perfect and ready for clear coat and to be called done. But I was looking at it, and I just can't bear to have a young Chi Chi on display in my collection in her outfit that Toriyama designed. It just isn't appropriate, and her outfit has always bothered me. I normally don't like taking creative liberties with character designs, but I am making an exception here. Back in the day I used to try to look past it and just consider maybe she was playing dress up in her mom's closet that day, but now... ughhhhh I can't. I tried just painting pants onto her, but it wasn't enough, so I sculpted a waist band and added some apoxie sculpt to cover the area that bothered me most. I honestly might end up resculpting her "shirt" armor a bit, because it's so weird to see someone her age with the chest outlined like that. I'm doing my best to retain the "look" of what could be an alternate outfit for her, but also without taking away much from the original design of the character. It's a shame that I have never seen any Toriyama alternate sketches for Chi Chi, because I'd like to take inspiration from some of his own ideas, but some of his non-DB works from that time period were not much more appropriate. Regardless... I think this is the only custom I've ever struggled with the design of. Master Roshi is just a bunch of junk I started throwing together years ago, and since I had left over apoxie from working on Chi Chi, I started filling him in a bit. And Mercenary Tao (Tao Pai Pai) was entirely sculpted by Adrenaline in 2016. He did a fantastic job and already did all the base coats. I clearcoated his legs since I don't need to shade black, and I clear coated portions of his arms. I need to do some work on the arm joints so they don't lose so much paint when moved. I don't play with my figures, but I do like to pose them when I do the photoshoot when they are done. I don't need to bother to do that with his legs since his skirt will cover them. I honestly don't remember what he used for the head, but it looks great. It's been so many years that I have done any of this stuff, that I am very rusty, but it's coming back to me. Luckily all of my supplies other than glues seem to be in workable condition.

Here's some progress on Mercenary Tao Pai Pai. Skin is done, pink is done, red needs clear coat, purple needs another coat of light purple, and then needs to be shaded much darker purple. I checked a bunch of reference pics, and his pants and shirt sleeves are dark purple, not black, so I have to do this. I will need to grind the articulation on the arms first though with my dremel or electric manicure tool, because the paint loss is really heavy if I use the articulation on the arms at all. Not looking forward to that...

While I was waiting for paint and glue to dry on Tao Pai Pai last night, I did some sanding and a very light glue-up of Master Roshi. I'm really happy with how he's going. It's going to be really, really, really difficult to attach and articulate his arms and legs though. It's going to be one of those issues where if I don't drill the holes at exactly the right angle, it's going to look weird. So... prepare yourselves... because I've never managed to drill articulation at the exact right angle before. I need to add pegs to the biceps, to the neck, and to the thighs (so drill holes in all of them), and then do the same thing to the places they need to go into. So 10 opportunities to mess up by 1 to 10 degrees lol.

I successfully articulated Roshi's arms and legs with pegs (1/8" rods from model kit skeletons (the trash leftover from building a model kit). I then stripped the acrylic paint off them (soaked them in hot, soapy water, and then scrubbed them with a toothbrush), dried them, and then sprayed them with Krylon Fusion for Plastic. The X-men Nightcrawler arms and legs were giving me a lot of trouble with paint flaking or not sticking at all. This worked well, and I need to see if Krylon sells a fleshtone... because this worked so much better than every other option I've ever tried...
Guldo got two fresh coats of paint and is ready for detailing. In the first pic, he still has Adam's coats of paint on him, except, I already have some clearcoat on the white pieces of him in the first pic. I might do a semigloss clear on the white parts of the torso armor...
Roshi is going to be a lot of work. The ends of his legs and arms are very irregular and he looks very unrefined in-person. He needs a lot of sculpting work still... probably 4 hours worth in total, with at least 3 of those concerned with his legs and arms. I need to resist the temptation to paint him, because he needs a lot of work before I do that...

You intend to put one of your custom Ginyu Force symbol sticker thingies on Guldo's armor?

tabuuforteakugun definitely! I don't think I'll be finishing Recoome, Captain Ginyu, or Jeice any time soon, but maybe I will change my mind and work on them sooner than later as well. I'm wanting to focus mostly on the figures that don't need much more than paint. I'm not sure why I'm letting Master Roshi distract me from that goal, but I am a little bit.
