I think both of these figures were Ichiban Kuji Shenron figures, so for simplification, I'm going to rename them. The one that is big and comes in an orange box we'll call cool Shenron. The one that is sort of big, comes in a green box, and looks like he is surrounded by swirling water and yellow rock candy we'll call toilet Shenron. Toilet Shenron came in the mail Friday, I opened him, and immediately just flat-out hated him. Stupid looking base, horrible smell like a hundred inflatable pool floats, and a super stupid looking pose... you couldn't even see his other hand because it was hidden behind his head. I just plain hated it. So within 5 minutes I was pulling him off the stupid base. I temporarily gifted the base to SS2 Gohan, took a pic, and put the stupid looking thing in the attic so it could smell up the attic. I then got to work on making toilet Shenron into something I could actually display in my collection. I used three sticks of hot glue and random crap to make a base. I repositioned his arm that was hidden behind his head. The pose is still "surprise!" which is stupid, but I like the figure a lot more now. I feel like he was a rip off at $100, being worth closer to $40 in my honest opinion. He's much better painted than Movie Collection Porunga, but it annoys me that he lacks his other legs and more length. The base I removed him from weighs at least 90% of his heavy weight. Banpresto could have made a truly epic Shenron with a lot of length if they didn't include that stupid base. Next, I decided since I was so dissatisfied with toilet Shenron, I decided to keep my cool Shenron, but repaint him to cover up his annoying silicone smell.

That's a good point that they could have made Shenron longer with the plastic they used for the base. I still don't understand the pose they decided. It's like a bunch of guys in Tokyo sitting at a table: "We want surprise, turn round, head out, arm hiding pose! Yes! No make Shenlong long. Make short! Add water effect, yes, becoz Shenlong come out of sea!"
I'm glad you decided to keep the DB Shenron aka cool Shenron. Now I won't regret not getting him from you if you had planned to sell it. That will be one long repaint though.

I have to wait about 6 more days for the Krylon Fusion for Plastic spray painbt to fully harden, so I can't paint him any time soon. I need to go check on him later today and see if he is sticky. If he isn't, I need to inspect him (and the dragonballs) from all angles and make sure I completely covered them with paint. Spray painting something like this (let's be honest... spray painting ANYTHING 3D) is very difficult. I also left yellow overspray on my balcony due to not thinking that the overspray would travel 2 feet out of the box, so I'm going to have to repaint part of it eventually because mineral spirits didn't remove all of the overspray.

I checked him and I missed a few spots on the dragonballs, bottom of his whiskers, and a small area on the bottom of his arm. Guess I have something else I have to do this morning before work... ugh lol

I think the better question is, how does he smell?

Just sprayed the last areas, I better have gotten them all. I don't spray paint often, but given that this is yellow, I can see the particles in the air and it is surprisingly dusty.
Smells like paint right now. The dragonballs were pretty tacky, so I hope the paint dries on them. It is meant for hard plastics and vinyl, not rubbery types. Shenron didn't seem too sticky at least. Not that it matters in particular. I am still going to hand paint him with acrylic paint, I just wanted to make sure that I covered every area.
So the next step in about a week will be removing him from the base he came with, because I'm going to use the base I made instead, then getting the whiskers inserted again.
Then filling areas with Apoxie to get rid of mold lines and such... won't take much to be honest.
Then I'm going to paint the areas that aren't supposed to be yellow with white latex house paint (just because it is so thick and opaque), and after that I can start using acrylic paint.
I'll also have to figure out what to do with the dragonballs because my custom base didn't use them. Might flip the base over and drill new holes because he was a little off center, and just like the base he came with, my base has one of the poles a little bit off from where it should be. You can see in the pics above which hole I am referring to because Shenron is bending that pole.

Wouldn't it have been easier to spray paint him green? Despite the layers you'll need to cover his underbelly?

I bought yellow in case I had leftover paint (which I barely do) so I could spray Hildegarn if I ever make him. I also wasn't happy with the two shades of green in Krylon Fusion for Plastic. One was like dark green lawn furniture (or the outside of a dark watermelon), and the other was a little too darn for Shenron and not lime green enough.

This Jacksdo SS Trunks head... is... amazing... it will eventually find its home on the body on the right... I will need to make the Jakks neck thinner and not use the Jakks neck peg. I would rather modify the Jakks body than the Jacksdo head.

ah...thank you for that image. I've been wondering if the Jacksdo head fits on the USS Trunks body...once I track down the variant USS Trunks with the darker outfit I may also try this out.

The neck is too big, but on that black body I have Trunks' head separated from his hair a little bit. Shouldn't be hard to do, but it isn't plug and play.
