Now... info from the 2002 Toyfair
www.dragonballtoys.com/toyfair2002/Like I said above, IF Labs Dragonball Series 3 was supposed to include Ox King, Murasaki, Jackie Chun, and Chi Chi. We have 1 pic of Ox King and none of the others. I wish Irwin showed us.
The regular 5 inch lineup changed and the character assortment ALMOST matched what was actually produced and sold
Series 11 was Irwin's last figures though, so Series 12 was done by Jakks and they sold us figures that looked a lot different from the prototypes in 2002 thankfully.
Series 8 was no longer:
and was instead:
Series 9 was
Series 10: Bulma was shown, but put in series 11. Gotenks took her place.
Unfortunately, there were a few changes to some of these figures.
I don't think Bulma changed at all, other than being put in series 11 instead of 10.
(I wish I had a large image, but I don't... does anyone have one?!)Yamcha was possibly intended to have swivel elbow joints similar to what Jakks used. In the picture above, you'll notice his arms are turned different from the production figure and the production figure's elbows just swing forward and backward, they don't turn like these do. A later prototype pic didn't even show him having elbow articulation at all, but the figure looks almost identical to the production one other than the turned forearms and lack of elbows.
School Suit Gohan FOR SOME STUPID REASON ended up getting his head and hair sculpt changed a lot and the production figure looked like crap. He appears like he may have swivel elbows in this pic as it's the same pic used in the group shot, though swivel elbows is just my assumption.
I don't own the production version of this Vegeta anymore, but based on my memory, I don't think he changed at all unless this prototype has swivel elbows like I think it does...?
Yakon strangely changed. The production version has his forearms upside down. The claws are supposed to be on top like the prototype, but the production figure has them on the bottom. He's yet another figure that appears to have swivel elbows.
At Toyfair, he was painted different.
Series 11: Some series 11 figures received swivel elbows like the series 10 prototypes I discussed above looked to have.
Gotenks was put in series 10 instead of Bulma and Bulma took his place. The production version looked pretty much just like this.
SS Gohan in kai outfit received the wrong color of pants when he was produced and technically the production figure and prototype both don't match the right colors for the outfit. Both had very awkward facial expressions.
SS3 Goku ended up with a bigger body than this I think, and his head and hair sculpt was messed with (ruined) for production. I think it's because he must not have fit in the package with the non-flattened hair and head that faced downward at an angle.
Supreme Kai and Kibito pretty much looked like this other than bad paint application on their eyes. (too much black)
Evil Buu/Skinny Buu ended up quite a bit different than this. The biggest thing is they painted him gray for production and gave him a cape that didn't look stupid (I think that's Fat Buu's cape on him).
Series 12: Series 12 was never produced by Irwin. Jakks produced these characters, but they were much different looking.
Although the Gohan is a super cool looking repaint (that's his outfit color from I believe DBZ movie 10 or 11...?) this figure wasn't released. Jakks Released a completely different, new figure in the Goku style orange outfit.
This SS Gotenks is a repaint of the Series 10 one. Jakks did release a SS Gotenks similar to this when they did a lot of repaints, but for series 12 they had their own stupid looking SS Gotenks figure.
This Tien is slightly similar to the Striking Z Fighter Tien that Jakks made, but it doesn't resemble the series 12 one much at all.
The Vegito is oddly just a repainted Series 5 SS Goku. Thankfully Jakks didn't do that to us.
The Super Buu shown here was released in the Striking Z Fighter series of Irwin figures.
Anyway, back to the pics on DBT...
Despotes was not allowed to show unapproved prototype closeups, but if you analyze the long shot he was allowed to post, you can recognize many characters...
Spopovich in package SS Gohan in blue repainted as non-SS and in movie colors (white socks) Kibito SS Vegeta from series 10 I believe Vegito behind him School Suit Gohan Yamcha in yellow suit Bulma in green dress SS Gohan in kai outfit SS Gotenks with white kamikaze ghost Tien from Buu Saga Gotenks from series 10

No major surprises or "what ifs" involved with this pic, as eventually we got a picture of the prototypes for series 12 and the others too. As most of y'all know, Jakks started with series 12, so that's how we got Tien and others.
There are two other pics on DBT that are from far away, but I don't see anything in them that wasn't released.
Series 3 was made. Series 4 was not.
