Hi! Tabuu here!
I was FINALLY able to join Insta without problems, so I will be posting my progress here AND there!
That's right! After trying and failing to buy a beat up old Jakks Cold to restore it, I decided to put my parts to better use!! Introducing REMOVABLE BATTLE ARMOR KING COLD Version 2.0! I started on this today! I had ideas on how to improve my custom, so all I may need later is to find a spare pair of Jakks hands (the fist and the other one that comes in the box).
So here's what I did and what I'm doing:
I took the whole bloody figure apart. I took my other Energy Blaster Ginyu apart, with help from my Pop with a tough screw, and completely changed the back and chest parts. I will work on finding better paint, with a better color to better blend with the Jakks arms and face.
I'm also changing the armor parts, to those my Ginyu had, for its complete and tougher pegs, and what I'll do with the other set: I unglued the cape, which I'll modify colour, design and glue-wise to minimize how this figure relies on glued-on parts. The spare armor parts will be perforated, perhaps with a drill, and modified with a red piece of plastic or something inside, to recreate the begging for his life against the cliff scene, and both body armor sets will be inter-changeable.
I've also done a bit of filing to make parts fit better, especially the waist part under the chest. I may have to make it thinner because the hip peg is super-low and again, I'd prefer NOT to have to use glue.
Next up, and this is a major step for me: I thought I wouldn't be able to pull it off, but I managed to after some effort: I was able to remove the spinning neck peg from Ginyu's head, and I will try to alter the Jakks Cold head to remove its ball joint and sit it on Ginyu's peg. This one, it's no big deal if I have to use glue, the head will still be movable.
I may also try to glue the tail back to its peg, as it's kinda loose.
I'm looking forward to keep working on this, I'll keep here and Insta posted!!

This seems pretty risky. What's the goal of this? Did you need Jakks King Cold's torso for a different custom project?

No. It was because I had to rip it apart because I didn't have the necessary tools to do a clean undo.
What's risky though?

Double-post time. So this week I should be getting the Ginyu I ordered for parts. As mentioned in the OP, he's ordered, and I got some tools and paint for his torso before constructing the final custom. I'm worried about the armor base not fitting. King Cold's waist joint is pretty short. If that happens I'll simply modify Ginyu's waist and make a bigger hole in the butt. Anyone know how to effectively fix satin/cloth? One of the cape's loops broke loose. I think I'll wait until the armor is on and then see if I can tighten it afterwards. I'm really looking forward to starting the work Also, Branjita I forgot to mention, the goal is to have a King Cold who can remove his armor. I've wanted such a figure since I was 12.

Well, it's not every day that somebody uses a $500 figure as their first custom figure. Most people use something that costs around $7.

It's a good thing I had 2 of him. LOL I definitely wouldn't have done this if he was my only King Cold figure lul.
Besides, this King Cold would actually be my SECOND proper custom, after the Burter I plan to re-make someday.

Double post time again. Ginyu showed up and I've begun taking him apart and modifying some parts. But I'm stuck at his chest and back. Two of the screws holding them together are hopelessly stuck, big time. I cannot unscrew them no matter how hard I try. I've worked with dozenz of EBA Ginyus in my time but I've never seen one with screws this stubborn. What are the best tips for stuck screws? Other than that, I have everything else I need.
EDIT: So I got help in getting the screws out, my dad made it look easy lmfao.
So now I've also painted the armor and begun doing the same to the back and torso parts. Once the paint dries, I will piece him together with (spare) screws from the waist part I was forced to break to remove.

It's been over a decade since I've taken a BEA Ginyu apart... will the screws just not move at all? Or do they hopelessly turn without unscrewing completely?
If the first situation... heat up some water in the microwave, put him in it for 30 to 60 seconds, and pull him out with some tongs. Wrap him in a towel and shake the water out without burning yourself. Then try turning the screws. You could try using a hairdryer to heat up that area instead, but I never use a hair dryer on something that can be put in hot water. A hairdryer will take 5 to 10 minutes of you holding it on the spot. It's a major waste of time, electricity, and energy compared to microwaving some water, submerging the figure for a minute, pulling it out, and unscrewing it.
If the second situation... do the same thing, but carefully pry the torso apart enough to stick a credit card or an extra screw driver into the shoulder to create some pressure, and then try unscrewing it. Eventually the screw will catch (or let go) after enough pressure is applied while you're unscrewing it, and the torso will pop apart in two.

Yea, turns out I might have been using the wrong Philips-head screwdriver for the job. Even my flatheads wouldn't work. I tried other solutions: Pepsi, lubricant, a hammer, a drill, etc. But now he's apart and painted. I might need to shorten the height of one of the armor pieces. The white "base" because there's not enough room for both it and the chest piece. Either that or I'll get a white primer or something and paint it on either the hip or the armor itself. Basically the figure is almost done. I just need to pop the pieces in place and then screw the back back on to the chest, then the armor and cape.
Here's a preview.
I know, the colour is most likely VERY wrong. But I am colour-blind something bloody fierce.
Just gotta repaint over a few scuffs here and there and figure out how to insert the head lol.

The colors are in fact quite different.

I know. But I didn't really want to spend forever looking for the exact colour. Most of him is covered by the armor anyhow.
So I might need to modify the neck opening or the head's ball joint somehow.

Why don't you paint all the parts to match the colors?

I'll have to give that a go!

I mean, the custom is for you, so if you can't see the difference, I guess it doesn't matter.

No, I mean you're right. The lighting in this room is plain awful. I've been begging for a new ceiling fan / light for ages, nothing ever came of it. The body is about 90% complete. Just needs more paint touch ups, a white line of pain on armor or waist, and.... painted-on gold buttons on shoulders? Yay or nay?
