You should try the Street Fighter anime movies and series Silrian. They are serious and not over the top violent with some incredible fight scenes.

Hmmm I tend to call myself an anime fan, but there aren't that many I actually got into. I've seen Death Note, Mobile Suit Gundam Wing, Fate/Stay Night, an X-men Anime adaptation, the Dark Knight Anime adaptations, The Matrix Animes and the familiar ones like DB, Pokemon, Digimon, Yu-Gi-Oh. And uh Shin Chan as a kid. Oh and some humorous one with a name I can't recall about kids at this school who're all really weird and a teacher who's a massive perv and that's a comedy. Don't think I've seen other Anime actively in the last 5 years or so. Yeah movies, Myazaki and Ghost in the Shell and another one I'm forgetting. I've tried Naruto, Neon Evengalion, One Piece, other Gundam series, Saint Seiya Myth Cloth Whateverdafaqitscalled, didn't like any of 'm (for sure). A friend of mine is a haaaardcore Lain fan, haven't seen that entirely yet either. Another pall recommends Afrosamurai but... meh. I have this film called D Vampire Hunter lying around. Think that's about it. Idk, does anybody have recommendations for anime that aren't goofy nor overtly graphically violent? It's the two things in anime that can put me off, I tend to not be interested in either. I like the psychology and or fantastical fighting elements of Anime. Gundam Wing, Death Note and Fate Stay are my main three anime I like apart from DB and Pokemon (Up to Johto Pokemon...). the only anime i can think of along those lines is Detective Conan

few recommendations:
death note: smart psychological anime. it gets dumb in the end IMO though ranma: comedy pureness. yu yu hakusho: if you love DBZ youll love yyh. has great storylines and its pretty damn short tenchi muyo: comedy, but not as good as ranma slam dunk: well, only if your a basketball fan. but not necessarily. although it got some fans into basketball Rurouni kenshin: YES!! awesome fight scenes, great great storyline. great character development. full metal panic: great storyline, can be funny, has good characters, too bad they ddint finish it.

lol 112 episodes seems short to me after watching close to 500 episodes of the whole db series. then you would love detective conan with 600+ episodes and going, and as much as i like Hakusho, it felt stale at the final chapter/season
