at the end of a YAJ auction if there is a bid within the last 5 minutes then the timer will go back from say 10 sec remaining to 5Min remaining, it will do this until no one bids and it closes. this is ONLY beneficial to the seller and as such a friggen HATE it. if eBay ever implied the tactic people would drop it's ass instantly.
though, i'm pretty sure this is why japanese people prefer YAJ over ebay

I mean, it sorely defeats the purpose of having an auction if the bidder who bid highest at the closing time is suddenly vulnerable to being out-bid. That... is extremely interesting! How weird! The F**K it is. Got burned today whilst bidding on an auction and it extended not once, not twice but bloody 4 times! Can you believe that? I was not even using Buyee's sniping feature or any other malpractice. It was simple, honest and timely bidding on my part. IMO, there should be a limit on the no. of extensions allowed

What is the significance of such a feature? I mean, it sorely defeats the purpose of having an auction if the bidder who bid highest at the closing time is suddenly vulnerable to being out-bid. you have never been to a real auction have you? eBay is actually barely like a real auction, technically speaking YAJ is BETTER than eBay in that perspective there are a few good reasons for the feature Buyer 1) gives you a chance to retaliate and raise your bid if someone outbids you 2) fairness of bidding (like a REAL in person auction the price will go UP until no one wants to bid any more Seller 1) higher ending total without one guy sniping or screwing around The F**K it is. Got burned today whilst bidding on an auction and it extended not once, not twice but bloody 4 times! Can you believe that? I was not even using Buyee's sniping feature or any other malpractice. It was simple, honest and timely bidding on my part. IMO, there should be a limit on the no. of extensions allowed I have had people tell me it extends over 4 hours really this isnt a hard problem to solve, say there was a toy you wanted, you bid the MOST that you would ever be willing to pay for it and your done, if you get outbid then your going to get outbid even if you keep waiting for the last 10 sec. there shouldnt have been 4 extensions on your part had you just done that

I personally LOVE that bid extension feature. I hate stupid ebay.. you can list an auction for 30 days and up until 10 min before ending is when you start seeing bids. Not good for sellers nor buyers. The purpose of an auction is fair for both buyers and sellers. The stupid snipe biddings that ebayers do like 5 seconds before ending messes up a lot of buyers and the seller as well. It is better to go on an auction that all bids are accounted for and you decide if you will or not bid depending on the current real price. So, you can put a $100 bid and people can decide if bidding or not. With ebay, the way their system works, makes a lot of buyers to back down at last moment after purchase cuz they place high bids and never meant it to be the bid price but just wanted to outbid the 5 sec guy who will bid. And it also messes up the sellers cuz of low priced ending auctions. I mean in the last 5 seconds 20 people might want to bid but there might be not enough time and so like 15 people wont be able to place bid. So the item ends lower price and buyers couldnt bid. Yahoo Japan definitively does it good. I can bid $200 and know if i will win it or not and then get a chance to go up or not before it ends because of that extension. That's how should it be done. no stupid ebay system.

If you think your max is $110, only when you realize someone else is willing to pay more than you, you will realize how much you want something and up your bid. Everyone should have that chance. gaybay simply takes that from us buyers. If people are going to snipe, might as well list items for 1 day since the rest of the days there will be no bids.

I use both Yahoo Japan and Ebay and I don't really have a problem with it but on Yahoo Japan once you place your bid it sucks waking up seeing that it almost reached max because of the bid extension time they give. I still like both ebay and YJA though.

I think the time extension is worse when your not expecting it. It is an unpleasant surprise.
Either way, as long as you know the rules uprfront you can adjust your buying or selling strategy accordingly.
I think the ebay model helps protect me from myself.

I much prefer the eBay model like i said lol. though like i also said, ebay isnt a TRUE auction because an in person auction ends when no one want to bid higher
