King Piccolo from DBDifficulty: 7/10 How to make: This is for my 4.5 to 5 inch DB collection I am trying to create mostly from scratch. I started with a Banpresto DX Action Figure Piccolo (you might be most familiar with the Raditz from the set) and I was severely disappointed with the figure. The articulation is basically worthless and just serves to make the figure ugly. The arms swing, swivel in an inhuman, weird location that is useless, barely bend at the elbow, and the wrists turn. The head and waist turn, which is useful. The legs look ball jointed, but aren't, they suck. The knees look really dumb when bent, there's no ankle articulation, and the swivel on the thigh is useless because the figure can't stand with the legs swiveled. I was hoping to make this figure into Cell Saga Piccolo since the arms are so beefy, but I changed my plans and made him into King Piccolo instead. I used the head from some bootleg King Piccolo super deformed figure that came with Roshi, Goku, Korin, etc. The face is a great sculpt, but needed some additions to the jaw and engineering to fit the neck. The shoulders were tiny and stupid looking so I sculpted some shirt on top. The hands I had were a fist and special beam cannon hand so I had to replace them (I'm not sure if there were alternate hands or not... I may have added wrist articulation, I don't remember), so I used hands from an old Spider-man figure of some ugly guy named Smythe I think. I added a lot of height to the lower legs because they were out of proportion for King Piccolo. I then sent the figure to Adrenaline for him to sculpt the clothing. He reworked what I did on the shirt, made the pants go higher, made him less skinny, sculpted some details to the inner thighs, resculpted the entire lower legs, and as I requested, made his feet enormous, since they were in the anime. Once I got the figure back, I did a minor amount of sanding, and gave him a full repaint. Painting Piccolo arms is annoying, but I practically have it down to a science now. I finished it off with one of the stickers I designed, the largest King Piccolo sticker from the Style 2 sticker sheets I sell. Before/After Rotation i48.photobucket.com/albums/f232/BrangetaBB/IMG_1087.jpgi48.photobucket.com/albums/f232/BrangetaBB/IMG_1086.jpgi48.photobucket.com/albums/f232/BrangetaBB/IMG_1085.jpgi48.photobucket.com/albums/f232/BrangetaBB/IMG_1084.jpgi48.photobucket.com/albums/f232/BrangetaBB/IMG_1083.jpgi48.photobucket.com/albums/f232/BrangetaBB/IMG_1082.jpgi48.photobucket.com/albums/f232/BrangetaBB/IMG_1081.jpgi48.photobucket.com/albums/f232/BrangetaBB/IMG_1080.jpgThe work Adrenaline did to the clothes was really great. I hate sculpting clothes and lack the talent I think, so you can thank him for how nice the pants in particular look. Articulation maintained Comparison to several of my other Namekian customs (and Editions Atlas Dende). I think Kami and Moori are the last two Namekians I need to make (I hope). I have parts to make Tsuno but doubt I will ever have the interest to make him. Looks great with Magnet Action Goku (I replaced his logo with one of my stickers... I wish I had his alternate hand... that power pole hand is disturbing) I finally opened my Stage 4 Tamashii stand package. Can't say I like them. They barely held the figures and it's stupid you can't plug the arm into one of the long straight poles to make a really tall arm and it's stupid that the claws aren't on a longer stick so you don't have to see the joint... that claw should be on a stick about 3 inches long so it doesn't have to have a screw and nut in every photo. $20 is a lot of money for something barely useful and ugly...

what a tasty shade of green. sounds completely absurd but that's what comes to mind. looks really cool.
missed the Goku, I gotta say, I really like seeing these Irwin style repaints again. part of me still wants to see every Jakks figure redone with an Irwin scheme so it's nice to see some Jakks parts repainted in that style.

You just reminded me Timone, I discovered by accident how to mix a much more opaque lime green than what you can buy off the shelf from Delta Ceramcoat. I mixed Opaque Yellow with Navy Blue. Perhaps 7 drops to 1. It's so opaque that I only had to do 2 layers then 1 layer of details in a darker green! That beats using Lime Green by 2 or 3 coats, which sped up the frustrating Namekian paint process by at least 2 or 3 hours. Plus, it was darker, so I didn't have to spend much time doing a detail layer. I just did watered down green on top in one quick layer, similar to the method the annoying voiced guy was doing in that video you posted last week.
I still have to make a Kami Saiyen. I have the parts, but I'm being lazy, because I will not enjoy sculpting his gown.
I still have about 20 figures on my table, plus some I have in a box next to my table. Then I have over 100 works in progress in a cabinet. I don't know when I will ever find the time to make all of these unless I lowered my quality standards...

Holy HFIL He came out great. Even if you hate that body, you got to admit the final result was worth it. If you dislike it so much, give it to me lol Seems like your paint jobs make every new custom a top tenner. How did you make his shoes look 'cloudy' with weird shades of a darker brown/orange and lighter brown/orange around it?

For that I paint them a solid goldenrodish color like what I use on a lot of Saiyan armor, then I water down a reddish brown color a lot and brush it all over, let it dry, then go back with the same watered down color, paint it on, and wipe it off with my finger tips.

This is the figure that the body is from. I wouldn't have replaced the hands if the loose one I bought came with more than just a fist and special beam cannon fingers. Totally a huge let down of a figure, but after work by me and Adrenaline, it did end up being a nice figure. You would think he'd be a nice figure based on pics, but nope. Useless articulation (can't even do a single special beam cannon pose with his arms or legs), dumb looking shoulders (his shirt would not technically cover his shoulders in real life... it was like it was skin-tight up there), etc. I was so pissed to discover his hips weren't ball jointed. For an Irwin/Jakks collection, the head and feet are little bitty too, so he won't blend right into a collection. He's technically about SBC Piccolo's size. He made a nice King Piccolo, but that was a lot more work than I wish he had been. I'm just glad Adam did half of the work.

Jeez, Bran, every custom seems to get better and better, and they were already amazing to start with! Piccolo's paint job is on point, and the fact that you maintained all the articulation is mind boggling. Adam did great with the clothes, I sure as heck can't sculpt pants like that, lol.

I actually made mine 3/4 of an inch taller and raised his head a little. It actually looks more like Piccolo than any other figure, so I display him as Cell Saga Piccolo. I don't care to pose them anyway like yourself, so no biggie.

That King Piccolo may be one of my favorites of yours. Also, I was considering buying that Piccolo, I'm not sure why

Lol as long as he isn't near any other Piccolo figures in my display, it'll suffice.
