Backstory
Dragon Stars Super Buu was supposed to have a release date of December 16, 2023, but it changed to December 28, 2023. You can buy him here: amzn.to/3tDNsGg
Packaging
The packaging is nothing unusual. It looks nice and continues the consistent theme. On the back, it only shows Super Buu, so I guess he is considered the only figure from his wave.
Size, Comparisons, Appearance, and Sculpt
For a Dragon Stars collector, I think his size would be reasonable. He's just about as tall as Dragon Stars figures ever get. For a 5 inch scale collector... he's fantastic. The Jakks Pacific Super Buu from around 20 years ago had two flaws: he was not tall enough, and he strangely had no hip articulation.
As far as appearance goes... I actually like the way the Jakks one looks best. He has shading, a menacing looking face, and I like his colors a little better, even though his colors aren't necessarily more accurate than the Dragon Stars figure. (Please ignore the belt and boots on my Jakks Buu... I repainted mine--the M was damaged on mine, and I did not like the color that Jakks painted his feet, so I painted them darker brown). My only disappointment with the appearance of the Dragon Stars figure is that Bandai painted his shoes a pale greenish brown instead of brown. I think they did this to match artwork from the game Dokkan Battle, because they weren't this color in the anime or manga (that I remember). They also did not paint his fingernails black, but that is something everyone can do very easily.
The sculpt is extremely good. In my personal opinion, this is the first Dragon Stars figure since Legendary Super Saiyan Broly that has actually had great looking pants. I'm sure there are other good ones, but these are probably the best fluffy pants on any Dragon Stars figure ever made. The pants look like they are fabric and from the anime, instead of looking like they were carved from wood like so many Dragon Stars figures from the past. The legs are very lightweight too, so they do not make Buu difficult to balance.
Buu's proportions are great. He does not suffer from awkwardly long forearms like the majority of previous Dragon Stars figures and his shins aren't overly long compared to his thighs either. 10/10 for the sculpt.
Posing and Articulation
The posing is where Dragon Stars Super Buu really shines. He has a lot of range of motion in his head and neck. His arms are extremely well articulated and he comes with 5 different hands (2 fists, 2 open hands, 1 thumbs up). This new leg (knee) design is incredible, and I hope all Dragon Stars figures with big, puffy pants will have knees like this in the future. He is fun to pose!
Final Conclusions
He's perfect for my 5 inch scale collection, and I really like the way he looks reading a magazine! Bandai did a great job with this figure. I'm going to rate him a 9.9/10. I'm deducting 0.1 points for the color of his shoes being wrong and lack of black fingernails. If you don't care about those details, he is a 10/10!
