AscendedSaiyan's amateur customs

Got myself a couple of bootleg Goku Blacks, and decided to use the second Rose head for a regular Super Saiyan custom. Figured it would match well with the upcoming SSB Goku, since that will use the same hair sculpt. The paint didn't come out perfect, but I knew that was unrealistic for me, so I was really aiming for serviceable and I think I achieved that.








Hey, I can do Manga Black...as long as you don't look at his left ear.


I think the original figuart/awakening Super Saiyan sculpt works great for the first appearance of the form, but just looks too big and lacks detail to match how the forms look evolved. I think the Rose sculpt nails it though.









All in all, I'm really pleased with how this came out.

Much appreciated man, I'm pretty proud of how it came out. The Goku vs Broly pic was my favorite too, I'm not great at getting dynamic shots, but when I think I can manage to pull them off, I go for it.

There was a sneak peak I suppose of my 2.0 Trunks custom, in that last pic of SS Goku. He definitely wasn't done yet, as my paint job didn't hold, and I posed him to hide the giant patch of yellow on his abdomen. But now I finally finished working on him, and I'm ready to present! Sorry if I went a little overboard on the number of pictures.



My Time Patroller had absurdly tight joints, so it was a real pain just loosening him up, before I even tried any custom work. I made some stupid mistakes along the way, but hopefully that means I've learned from them and my next custom will be even better...hopefully.







Trunks really needs a 2.0 update, him and Piccolo both for that matter. Just looking at my shoddy custom vs the premium color reveals a lot of the short comings of the original figure.



Heck, the atrocious feet alone on the original are worth it to make an upgrade lol.




I did some slicing on an armor Trunks face to make it compatible with the Xeno Trunks head. It still works with armor Trunks, however there will still be holes where the sideburns would be when attached to Xeno, since that head doesn't have any. You can't really tell when it's just on a shelf though.

Comparisons 




Head swapping is a mixed bag at best. The straight up and down collar means either of the armor trunks heads don't work very well. The long hair on the base head can't fit in between the collar, so you have to place it on the outside, which works when looking to one side, but not so much facing forward.


Super Saiyan fares a bit better, but can't look up thanks to the pony tail.


Base Super Trunks looks really weird on this body, not sure who would want this look, but it does work perfectly fine.


The Super Saiyan Rage head looks pretty cool though. You might even be able to pass it off as Bojack Trunks, if you could figure out how to attach some Goku arms on.


Well, hope you guys liked it, this was 100% the most intensive custom I've ever attempted. Soooo much frustration, but ultimately worth it I feel. Now watch them announce 2.0 Trunks next week.

My gosh, what a freakin' amazing custom Future Trunks and the write up was great! I read every word and looked at every pic in detail. What a great job!!

So, ever since the new SSB Vegeta came out, I've been struggling to find a spot in my collection for the original Res F Vegeta. I've never been a fan of his hair color, as it's pretty much accurate to nothing, and he really hasn't retained any kind of value, so an idea struck me. If I could get my Demoniacal Fit SSB head to fit on the Res F body, A: I'd just overall prefer the figure that way, and B: that frees up the original head for customizing. Thanks to him not being a difficult figure to obtain, and the new Vegeta devaluing it as well, I didn't have too much reservation about repainting the head, as I do like the sculpt and I didn't want the head to just sit in a drawer.

So without further adieu, here's a base Vegeta



I ended up modifying the hole to fit 2.0 pegs instead, I know most would say that this head looks too small and/or too thin, but I honestly like the look. I specifically wanted to put it on the movie body, because to me the style reminds me quite a lot of Takahashi's art in the film, during the initial fight with broly.

The process of making this guy was severely un-fun. First was stripping the paint, and trying to rub off just the eyebrow and not the eye itself was like pulling teeth. The masking was annoying as all get out, in particular cutting around his widow's peak. Then during the painting process, I ran out of clear coat, but not before I tried to use it, and it ending up spraying white flakes all over the hair. So then I had to apply another coat of black. I'll save the last thing that went wrong for a little later, but yeah not a great time. I think the results aren't half bad though.













Back to that one other thing that went wrong, on one face I was using acetone (which I am typically very very careful with) to clean up a mistake I made above the eyebrow. It came out okay, I definitely could have lived with it, but I'm just so OCD about these kinds of things. So back in I go to try and fix it, fast forward to me getting frustrated that every time I fix one thing I create a new problem, then rushing because of that and...

Goku: Hey Vegeta, you doin' alright, you don't look so good.



Vegeta: DOES IT LOOK LIKE I'M "ALRIGHT" TO YOU?!?!?!





Yeah, I ended up splashing something like a teaspoon of acetone on the shouting face, really not happy about that. Obviously, there was no salvaging anything at that point, so now it's just a monument to my failure.  

Vegeta: GAAAAAAHHHHH!!! IT'S IN MY EYE, EXISTENCE IS PAIN!!! 



Oh well I suppose, I mostly stuck the landing, at least I came out with something useable.
