Well as I said, my intent was to have it match the display cases in Smash 4, which have a texture on them that appears to be fabric. I waivered between felt and velvet, but I ultimately went with felt as I thought it'd be easier to work with provide some cushion for my amiibo. I did also paint the cracks and crevices, mostly on the sides of the holes because if I didn't the amiibo wouldn't fit.
I have a bit of experience with woodworking myself, as I at one point built my own 8ft wide display shelf (sadly I've since moved across the country and it couldn't follow). I was planning to do the base of this as well, but to make the holes for the amiibo would necessitate having a high powered drill with 2in diameter drill bits, which in the end was less cost effective than just paying someone to do it for me.

When I was in college, I had access to the equipment I'd need to build a display cabinet. But I didn't have the money to buy materials. I could probably afford to buy materials now, but now I have no access. Typical story of life lol.

So I already posted this on my FB page, but I figured I'd give a bit of a play by play here. Many thanks to gp for his assistance, since he's the one who printed the pieces for me rather than having to go to a third party this time. Goten (with Trunks as an honorable mention)- So I'm working on Goten and Trunks at more or less the same time, though I've had a "setback" with Trunks. See, despite them being part of the same print and the pieces being done at the same time, Trunks' head somehow ended up being noticeably bigger than Goten's, which means I have to redo it. It works out though, since I'm likely going to print boots for Trunks and maaybe boot tops for Goten? Haven't decided yet, but I'm leaning into it. Bulma- HO BOY BULMA. Ok, so, I had already shown off the head in a previous post. Since then I've had gp print me a scarf, skirt, and boot tops and bottoms. Scarf was pretty much perfect as is, just needed to widen the neck hole a smidge. I was going to mold the boots and cast them over the existing legs and feet (I did a similar process with Cold) but I recently purchased a hand drill (for the amiibo stand above, since I needed to screw some bits down and the wood was too tough to just screw into) and between that and my dremel I discovered I could just fit the boot tops over the existing legs. I then drilled into the feet pieces and glued in the foot joint. I still need to finish the left foot up, but the right foot has all but the side to side articulation of the original figure. The skirt though... it's been my nemesis. It wouldn't be so bad if my OCD didn't make me incapable of appreciating a cloth skirt, but it does. I HAVE discovered a process that supposedly can work to make a decent bendable plastic skirt, but doing so involves using a form of liquid clay that has to be baked and I had to have a base model to mold from... it's been a whole thing. Good news is, I already have a mold made (twas literally the first thing I did) but I've got concerns about the translucency of the material and whether I'll bake it properly, etc.

So long story short, the skirt thing I had planned did not really pan out, but I fell back on a suggestion from gp and had someone 3d print a skirt in TPU plastic, aka the stuff used in a lot of 3d printed phone cases. The result is a bit stiffer than I'd like, a result of making the print a bit too thick to ensure print stability, but it's still pliable enough and I did thin it out a bit with my dremel to enhance that. Still working on painting the boots, and I really should look into a different paint for her scarf... it's ok, but it's a bit dark in person.

She's looking good.
I'm sure I've said before that this is my favorite Bulma look as well.

Looking good man, was that body chun the knockoff one or the regular one? if it was the ko hows the quality, its been hard to find these for a reasonable price

As far as I know it's the real one, I found it at a convention a few months ago. If it is a knock of it's still good, especially for what I needed it for.

Bulma looks great! If you're still looking for a flexible clay, try Sugru. I have a package of it, but I haven't used it yet. I saw it at Lowes one time, but I got mine off Amazon. You have to get the color you want or mix different colors of Sugru together to get the color you want, because you can't paint the stuff. But it supposedly stays very flexible.

So I'm about to post something that I feel the need to explain a bit first... A friend's wedding is happening in June, and as such my friends and I have been working on a wedding gift for them. The idea my friend originally came up with was to make a music box, with representations of the bride and groom as the centerpiece. Originally it was just "Wedding Sonico" and "Raptor in a Tux" representing our friends (bride collects Sonicos and groom is into Dinosaurs), but I wasn't really a fan of that since NONE OF US have any knowledge or connection to Sonico, and frankly I expect a half dozen Wedding Sonicos to be mixed in with the gifts anyway. We went back and forth on it, with me pushing for something like Judy Hopps or Lola Bunny since her online handle includes "Bunny". As such, I decided to ask her (as part of another conversation) what her favorite Bunny Girl was. "Bulma" That's... not what I was expecting, but ok. After that, I found a Bulma/Vegeta wedding Diorama that we're going to pull the Bulma from and add Bunny ears to (I'm going to attempt to make them removable) and, as a tweak to the "Raptor in a Suit" idea to match the Bulma, we decided to do a Raptor with Vegeta hair and a suit patterned after the one from the Diorama. Still VERY early stages, but I wanted to show this off (especially because I can't show it off in a lot of my normal avenues since I don't want the wedding couple seeing it

That's a really creative, unusual thing for a wedding! I'm making something special for our wedding, but I am short on time and VERY TALL on things remaining to do, so I don't know if I'll finish in time. I'll post pics on DBF if I actually do finish. I'm getting married exactly 30 days from today, and we have stuff like dishes, towels, kitchen knives, etc. on our registry. So the idea of the bride wanting Sonico figures (I had to google what that is) seems odd to me, since our registry definitely doesn't have DBZ figures on it for me. But anyway, it's nice to see that you're going so hardcore in trying to make them a special gift. I don't know what your friend's wedding will be like (casual or expensive), but if it's like mine... I am so stressed and busy that I'm not myself. It's overwhelming. And the number of people we're paying who are "on the clock" for each minute at the ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception is crazy. I know for a fact that I'm going to be impatient/short with everyone. To put it simply, don't feel bad if they only give it 30 seconds of their time and praise at the time of the wedding. If they have photographers, videographers, caterers, a wedding planner, and other people actively "on the clock" they are going to be like me, and trying to rush through everything to remain on schedule and avoid extra fees for going over the time that has been contracted. To get the best reaction, I would try to present them the gift at least a week or two (or even better... a month or two) before the wedding, so they have time to appreciate it and give you the reaction you deserve and expect. Frankly, with only a month of time remaining before my own wedding, I'm pretty much just stacking wedding gifts up and not even opening them at this point, because I don't have room to put them anywhere yet. I just don't have the time for them, beyond seeing what they are and writing thank you notes for them. I have to prepare for my wife moving in with me in a month, and adding her to my phone plan, my rental agreement or whatever with the apartment complex, etc. etc. etc. So I'm not a very patient or giving person right now. Just wanted to give you the heads up on that, since I'm actively going through this HFIL of stress.
