So I'm not dead or done with customs. Ran into a lot of issues behind the scenes with Dende's model, but I've got it mostly worked out now. Because he's such a low priority character I'm not going to be printing him for awhile yet (especially not with figuarts eating my action figure money with so many good releases in a row) but the model is basically ready to go whenever I am. Meanwhile, I've also been doing some work on making a custom Tarble. However, because I'm already using the "Ace" head for Gohan, I decided I'm instead going to print my own just to give him a little differentiation. I've already ordered a set of different sized test heads so I can make sure the final one fits best on the figure, then I'll order the final print in a better material. As I mentioned in the bootleg forum, I'm planning on using Freeza limbs, so I took a quick snapshot of my custom borrowing my primary Freeza's legs. I also just started some early work on my custom final form King Cold using the figure rise Cell, but the biggest hiccup I see is... well, the feet. My original hope would be that the figure rise Freeza feet would be close enough in size I could jury-rig them for Cell, but they're nowhere close. Does anyone know of a flatfooted Freeza/Cooler/Cold statue or something in ~7" scale that I could get relatively cheap?

Majin Tomato Tarble is coming along nicely, I almost did the same thing but I had first form Freiza in mind.

So my prototype heads came in for Tarble. This is the size I ended up using. Going to reprint it in a better material once I get paid Thursday, as well as a Bulma for later use.

Waiting for the head still, but I am so happy with how he's come along.

I'm loving the 3D printing, there's so many possibilities there. Also good on you for giving Tarble a chance, I love that little Saiyan dweeb. Can't wait to see it done!

Was kind of burned out on DBZ for awhile there, but I got something I preordered months ago in the mail a few days ago which finally got me off my butt to finish Tarble. Expect decent pics of the final figure soon, but in the meantime here's a quick video I made a few days ago, mostly to show off a recent arrival to some friends in a different state. (yes, I forgot to glue on the scouter before shooting the video. I corrected it right afterwards)

Arms are a little long, but you're only going to get better, so keep customizing. With 3D printing, your limits are really endless.
Also, I like that custom Figuarts Saiyaman Gohan from pg 1. Nice choice.

Yeah... I probably should have dremelled a bit deeper into Vegeta's gloves to help keep the size down, but I was worried about damaging the articulation. All in all though, he's about the height I wanted, which is all I was really aiming for. Now for the first pic of a project I've mentioned a few times now... Fourth Form King Cold: Now to be clear, I've actually put a bit more work into this since this photo was taken, but this should give a ROUGH idea of where things are going with it. My biggest endeavor for the time being is just getting the whole thing smoothed out, as well as adding some stability and weight to the individual pieces. It's necessitated a lot of pulling him apart and putting him back together, and a lot of what I'm doing is still all internal for that reason. Edit: Made up something that's a *rough* approximation of how I'm thinking the final version should look: As you can see, I took cues from both Cold's children for the design, but I'm keeping bits of Cell in there as well. The idea is that Cell has some of King Cold's dna inside him, so certain elements of Cell's design can reflect back on King Cold's true form.

Trying to take advantage of my 3 day Christmas weekend to get as much work as I can done. I ultimately decided on a more blue color scheme than purple. The biggest slowdown is that every time I add sculpt to any section I have to stop everything I'm doing and wait for that to harden. The torso area is mostly done in that regard, but the knee/elbow areas complicate matters. I also recently purchased what I assume is a knock off of a 2nd form Frieza statue to steal the feet from, since Figure Rise Freeza has tiny gecko feet (that said, the tail is attached in the image above, it's why I had to position him funky. )

King Cold is DONE... ish. I still have the feet to do, but until the bootleg Freeza arrives they won't be too visible. All in all, I'm pretty happy with how Cold turned out... he's a nice mix of elements from Freeza, Cooler, and Perfect Cell. Since I also broke down and bought a WCF Freeza to turn into Kurieza, it's taking all I have not to run down to TRU and see if I can't track down a Dragon Stars Freeza to turn into Cooler... but I'm not crazy enough to hit up TRU Christmas Day. Besides, between that and a few other bootlegs I bought while I was getting the second form Freeza statue I'll likely have to repaint, I expect I'll have enough to do for a bit anyway.

So I've already brought up 3d printing voodoo as a tool in my customizers toolbox, but I just made some... Admittedly hefty purchases to add another, and I'm super excited to try it out. Hydrospan 400 aka Hydroshrink.
For those not aware, there's this nifty molding plastic called Hydroshrink that has been a mainstay of Marvel Legends customizers for awhile, allowing them to shrink heads from Hot Toys figures down for use in ML customs, or taking ML heads and shrinking them for 4in customs. If anyone is interested, Glassman runs a store dedicated to making them.
However, the project I've got in mind is a bit... Bigger. See, there's a decent Mr Popo that's relatively cheap, but it's 8 inches tall. Obviously that's a BIT large to fit in with my Figuarts, but if I use Hydroshrink, I can make a mold and scale him down to use with either Figuarts OR 5 inch figures. And if I have those molds anyway... assuming it works, would anyone be interested in some spare castings?

Whoa, no comments on this so far?
That Cold is sweet. I am quite surprised the face turned out to have that "King Cold" look. His body would probably look something like this, too. You're improving a lot. I have that Figure Rise Cell and I know for a fact how fragile it is.

TBF, the fact that it's so fragile allowed me to cut off entire chunks of it pretty easily. Plus, basically coating the entire thing in a layer of Fixit Sculpt did help reinforce some of the weaker areas.
Still debating how to do the feet exactly. I've got a 2nd Form Freeza bootleg coming, so I COULD just chop the feet off it and dremel out a hole and all that... or I could just cut down the cell feet, make a mold of Freeza's, and cast that mold around the cell feet.
