Bandai ain't in the business of competing with itself. They are catering to two very different markets with their figures and model kits, you can tell by a lot of the figuarts fans constant bashing of these model kits, some people feel the need to hate on them unnecessarily. Yeah we get it, you think Figuarts are the best, you see someone give a decent review of a figure rise on YouTube and all you see is comments saying they aren't as good as Figuarts, buy Figuarts instead! It's hardly unnecessary. If trash is trash, why should people pretend as if it isn't trash? If I hate the model kits, it's because I had high hopes for them. I love building model kits and always enjoy inspecting the designs. Throw in optional parts and make it so the heads can go on multiple bodies, I'm very happy (it's mostly why I'm still a fan of the Figuarts line despite the many flaws - optional heads/hands/faces have become essential to me). I see that the variant Gokus are all compatible with each other. The skin tones don't match (which is bad) but it's amazing that if you have five different Gokus with different heads and gis, you can swap the heads around and have automatic variants. That's great. BUT...but...then you see the model kits and how awful they look, and all enthusiasm goes out the window. Frankly, I'm surprised I haven't seen more complaints from model kit fans. As far as I'm aware, Bandai model kits typically have superb likenesses. (and, even if that isn't always the case.....) A figure/model kit can be well designed (as far as the engineering goes) AND an aesthetic failure (which is what the model kits are, and that's exactly what they SHOULDN'T be). I said this earlier and I'll say it again - I don't want to buy interpretations, I want to buy accurate (or at the very least, expertly crafted) recreations. I believe the FR kits are designed digitally and if this is the case, subpar designs are unacceptable. Digital design has made it VERY easy to achieve amazing sculpts. Since the standard Figure-Rise line has such terrible sculpts, something Bandai would have to go out of their way to make if the kits were made digitally, just what is the reason for that? Is it so they can double dip and return to the Master Grade line in the future with better character accuracy AND higher prices? Well, I don't think anyone would argue that this is a good thing. TL;DR - I'm ready and willing to buy DBZ model kits but not when they look bad.Well I guess I'm sorry that I'm getting roughly the same plastic amount, articulation, and sculpting (regardless of what you say as I don't see it) for more than half the price of the "superior" versions. I refuse to spend $100 (CAD) per figure when I can instead spend $40 and get roughly the same bang for my buck at a price I don't have to feel ashamed spending. The fact of the matter is that the S.H. Figuarts and the Figure-rise lines are essentially the same thing at two drastically different price points. Bashing the cheaper option for not looking quite as good just makes you come off as an obnoxious dick-waver with too much money.

your perspective won't change anything I've said about the kits. Plus, if you're truly happy with the kits despite what people say about them, why bother crusading against those who are critical?

No one is "bashing" the Figure-rise line, thesupernamekian. No one is asking you to buy Figuarts figures or making fun of you for preferring the Figure-rise. Perhaps they are essentially the same, but for some people in this hobby "essentially" is not enough. It's like saying the Dragon Ball Z English dub and subtitled Japanese dub are essentially the same; on many levels that is completely true, but when viewed more deeply (the way heavily-invested fans look at this type of thing) there are many differences, more than enough to form a preference. At the same time it is also valid to say yes, they are in many ways indistinguishable. I highly doubt that criticism of the Figure-rise line is motivated by the desire to show off being rich. Rather, as DBZ fans, we all want to see our favourite characters looking the way we want them to. For you and many others, the Figure-rise line may fulfil that criteria. For others, it may not. In a debate centred around supposedly unfair bashing, it's odd to personally insult Figuarts fans in your defence. We're all pretty insane for spending money on this stuff in the first place, so it's no surprise we all have specific and differing views on what makes a good figure. Thankfully the hobby accommodates for this by producing different products for different sections of the market. Debate surrounding them is only natural as people form opinions.

Thanks to user Mcre I modified Krillin a bit. In my opinion he's the only one that beats his Figuarts counterpart in actual looks.

It's true that Bandai doesn't care about making the same character in different lines, but dear mother of God, it still makes no sense.
These model kits would be hotter if they released 17 and 18 in their Super outfits, and just focused on different characters that the Figuarts line hasn't made. This would allow collectors to integrate both lines into their collection, as oppose to making them compete, and forcing collectors to pick just one (because they have the same characters).
Just imagine a Figure-Rise Ginyu Force. Insane.

Figure-Rise are way too big to be a supplementary line aside from Krillin since the Figuarts one is too big as well I believe (does anyone have both? I haven’t seen an actual comparison pic yet).
Android 18 is like Figuarts Goku height.

Android 18 is like Figuarts Goku height. If you're still looking for a comparison, here is a video showing them both. On another note, another week or so until Broly is released, can't wait! Though it'll take 2-3 weeks to be delivered though. hah.

got a krillin finally!!! you know what? i like this version much better than the figuarts one. his destructo disc is better, the details on his face is better, hes slimmer, his head is smaller which makes me think hes actually more to scale witht he rest of the figuarts rather than the figuarts version. i made him into a saiyan saga like this: (credit to mcre for photo). he fits in well with yamcha tien and piccolo for my saiyan saga collection. just need an hcsf chouzu (can never spell his name right) and kid gohan. im gonna paint some socks into him and paint his gi to match yamcha. for $20 I highly recommend everyone on getting one!!!
