I wish they made the Cyborg Frieza that's on the back, but they did not. They only made one and it was for the box art.  I still insist that only 1 Yardrat Goku exists, or I would have seen one in the 15 years I've been collecting, but you might as well show it in the checklist as a prototype. Here's the best pic I have (I enlarged the one I had and corrected it in photoshop).  |

I'd say a prototype checklist would be better, then again it woud be more organized if put in their checklists.

There's only one prototype in this line though. It's better here.
Also, Boddah, can you crop monkeyb0y's pics via photobucket? It's pretty easy to do. There's huge amounts of ugly white and black border around them.

Bran have you ever seen that figure, aside from the pics on the box? That's one of the prototypes I would do unholy things for... And for Yardrat Goku, I was going to put that pic on here, but I figured since we haven't ever confirmed that it still exists, it would be better on a prototype list. But it's good to have it here anyways, so I'll add the pic you posted to the main list. One day I will find at least a picture of that Goku... There has got to be one somewhere, the person that has it may not know what it is, or just might not have posted pics on the interwebz. I have a really strong feeling that eventually he will show up at a japanese toy museum or something. Bran, didn't you say on the old site that the owners of the Yardrat FAP may have signed some sort of privacy agreement with Bandai/Toei/Bird, stating that they could not openly sell it or post public pictures? If that could be the case. Also, has anyone translated the text from the image yet? I feel like it's got to have some important info, but the only part I could translate is the word "Figure" in the red bubble. |

Well I meant a checklist with all prototypes just for the hell of it like the MC series, jakks, Irwin, and any others I've no clue about.

I tried using the google translate app to take pics of the text on that pic and translate it, but it was spotty and uninformative.
I haven't seen Cyborg Frieza anywhere else.
I don't believe the story you're referencing, as I've never seen anything in print that says that. I'd love to be proven wrong, but I've never seen it. Sounds like an urban legend started on a forum. I remember somebody contacted Toyfare magazine or whatever about it and they contacted Bandai Japan and received a horse crap response about something or other, but I don't remember if it was this story. Whatever the case, I think it was lies.
My opinion is that one prototype exists and it's either in a storage area Bandai owns and long forgotten, in some Japanese Bandai executive's closet/garage who doesn't care about it, etc. The quality of these dolls (let's be honest, they are dolls) isn't the highest and most impressive thing in the world anyway. Back in 1998 when I first started collecting, sure, FAP were pretty nice compared to SBC since SBC just swing their arms and nothing else, but they aren't even as nice as Irwin's 12 inch dolls with cloth outfits. So while getting Yardrat SS Goku could be a holy grail goal for some, it's not exactly the most impressive thing in the world in person. I had an SS Goku for a brief time, and it just wasn't all that neat out of the box.
