This way you can mess with your display more often.

The Detolf glass display from Ikea is a pretty good tall glass case and it runs around $70 and is simple to put together. A lot of collectors use them. One thing to consider is that with an enclosed glass display, you don't have to worry about dust while with an open display, you have to regularly dust the collection every now and then.

Dust is ny main concern with bookshelves! Sometimes they get sooo dusty!

At Ikea you can get partial or full glass doors for most of their bookshelves, too. I've seen some pretty cool modifications people have made to Ikea bookshelves/cabinets, from Detolf doors on bookshelves to a double wide Detolf cabinet.

After seeing all the collectors who have Detolfs I bought one and was pretty disappointed. The glass shelves are a bit too short on mine which could cause them to collapse under certain circumstances. Also there are several large gaps that allow dust in. Not as good as everyone hypes it up to be. I won't be buying another one.

You're right about the dust getting inside this type of glass display. I frequently have to clean it and it's a pain putting each figure back in place.

Some dust does go in at times but check out this thread to avoid some of the dust entering. dragonballfigures.boards.net/thread/846/keep-figures-good-shape?page=2

There's always some occasional dust but there are ways to dust proof it although I haven't gotten around to it but for the value, I would say they're the best all glass displays out there. You could always combine Detolfs together and mess around with it to accommodate your needs. Some really nice glass displays are in the hundreds.

I found the Detolf to be a good budget glass case. When I had them, I displayed Hot Toys 12" figures in them which are much larger and heavier than Figuarts. This was several years ago so maybe IKEA's quality has dropped since then?
Yes, dust did get in, but it wasn't as bad compared to some of the stuff I left OUTSIDE of the case. If you want something almost completely dust-proof, you'll probably be paying over a hundred dollars.

I shouldn't have to spend money to modify my case to make it less dust proof and to be honest I've found better display cases at garage sales and thrift stores. Just pissed me off how some collectors hype the Detolf cases up so much yet don't tell you about the bad parts of them.

I like using my antique armoire to display my figures. Book cases get really dusty, so I like to be able to shut the doors.

There are also some online websites that sell plastic cases that you can rest over figures/statues/etc. They can be on the pricy side from what I recall but if you want to keep dust out, it's one option to go with. Plus they can sit on a bookshelf and you don't have to worry about glass doors. If you have any local HobbyLobby or Hobby shops, you might be able to find some on the shelf to check out first. Any discount furniture places might also have some cheap glass/display cases as well. People go there for furniture but you might end up finding some nice cabinets for a good deal. Here's one I found: www.collectingwarehouse.com/Product-Home-Page/Acrylic-Box-Display-Cases/
