Bandai Real Works figures were released in Japan from January 2007 to 2010. There are figures from DBZ, DBGT, and DB(Z) Kai. They are primarily 4.5 inch scale figures that come on bases, they are not particularly scaled, so smaller characters like Gotenks and SS kid Gohan actually fit in really well with Irwin/Jakks 5 inch scale collections. Many, many bootlegs exist of this line and in various qualities... some bootlegs are quite good if they are old ones... most bootlegs still available for sale in the year 2018 (when I'm editing this thread) are absolutely terrible.
The figures are mostly solid colors without shading (though there are exceptions, like their amazing 100% Frieza and a few others), which leads them to be a bit dull looking, and legit figures are generally made of at least 2 pieces. A lot of the figures separate at the waist. Many of the bootlegs do not separate at the waist. Many of their shaded figures, particularly those from the 6th set look terrible.
These figures have no articulation and all come with a base. Bootlegs can sometimes easily be identified by the fact that many of the (at least) older bootlegs have cloudy clear bases OR completely solid black bases. There are legit Real Works figures that came with black bases, but you can see the Z through them still, so they aren't completely opaque.
In the United States, a few of the Real Works figures were released by Bandai America around (I think) 2008. They were not called Real Works. They were called "Original Collection". The figures were the first 2 sets of Real Works figures, so not many of the truly unique characters were released in the US. Mostly just DBGT characters, Saiyans, Cell, and Piccolo. These did not sell well in the US and they ended up at Ross Dress for Less stores, Tuesday Morning, and similar stores that sell toys and clothing at lower prices than the original store the toys and clothing came from. I believe that only sets 1 and 2 were definitely released in the US. The highlight of the Original Collection is that there was a Walmart exclusive 4 pack containing Majin Vegeta, SS adult Gohan in orange gi (Ultimate Gohan), SS Vegito, and Super Buu. The Gohan and Vegito were US exclusives, because those figures were only released in Japan with black hair. In this 4-pack they had yellow hair.
We don't have a checklist for Real Works, but here are pictures of sets 1 through 10. And this is the perfect checklist in my opinion.

In some cases, Banpresto High Spec Coloring Figure (HSCF) figures can fit in with these figures, because many of them were not created large enough to fit in with the other figures from the same line. For example, the HSCF Android 16 fits in well with these figures since the Real Works version was very small.
