I think $35 is a damn reasonable price. 6" Hasbro and Mattel figures easily fetch $20-$30 at regular retail. If you want to get anything for under $15, it's a crappy kiddie toy with crap quality and crap articulation. And even with the pricier figures, if you don't pick them up yourself, you'll likely get messed up paint decos. Considering the FAR superior quality, pretty much top of the line articulation, huge slew of accessories, and impeccable paint applications (lol excluding SS3 Goku, that is), I'd say that more than warrants the extra $10 or so.
And as for opening them... Hell, I know many people do keep them in box, but I don't buy my figures with intent of reselling them later. I don't give a crap what I do to their value because I know I'll be keeping them for a good long while, if not indefinitely. I get action figures to play and pose around! And with figures this articulated, it'd be a crime not to do so.

30$ - 55$ is the standard price for a high-end articulated Japanese figure.

I thought he was asking about after market prices, because he mentions 3x the amount of the Scultrues. I thought those things were 30/40 bucks. Plus.. 30-50 bucks isnt that much money, if you have a job that helps you afford stuff.

Quality over Quantity. I'd rather have the Figuarts collection over a bunch of little figures at $15/ea One question I do have about this line is the upcoming aftermarket value. Do you think the Goku or 18 will skyrocket? My thinking is probably not, as you see with how cheap Krillin is

Since Krillin hasn't been out all that long his price wouldn't have risen yet. Give it a bit more time and see what happens

Personally I think the Goku figure will be worth more than any other figuarts figure. Who doesn't want Goku in their dbz collection? Even I have a few preordered. Technically I own a few Krillin as well, I just never plan on opening them.

I don't think that that's how market after-value works
As far as their price, 30$-50$ dosen't seem that high for a Figma or Tamashii high-end figure, as far as what you get in return. A lot of time and workmanship goes into those collectible products. If someone can't afford it, or doesn't feel comfortable with the price than it's not for them...
The Figuarts after-value will probably drop when a better series will be available in a few years, and they will be obsolete in comparison.

Quality over Quantity. I'd rather have the Figuarts collection over a bunch of little figures at $15/ea There's no arguing that Figuarts are the best quality. However, the problem with a Figuarts collection is that it has absolutely NO quantity and even though their individual quality is amazing and best out there, their quality as a whole lacks a bit because of scale issues. We all have our opinions and I respect that. IMHO, I'd take my 5 inch scale collection of hundreds of different characters that I can customize and modify and build such a variety with any day than collect a line that takes 3+ years to build 13 figures (only 10 of them are different characters) but for some of us, patience comes easy. I've wanted to eventually collect these and fix their scale problems, but until I see that variety with Yamcha, Tien, and Chiaotzu made, it probably won't happen. If it does, I'd collect everyone minus Goku, Gohan, and Piccolo's original manga releases.

I agree the DBZ Figuarts characters variety is really lame
That is why I love Gashapons, they are cheap for the most part(if you know where to get good deals)and scale with many diffrent lines and other big items, giving a really nice effect displayed together.
