Chaozu is done, but I'm freshening up and correctly mistakes on Tien since I painted him so many years ago before I post Chaozu so I can post them together.

Academy model kit Tien and ChaozuDifficulty: 5/10 How to make: The Academy model kits are extremely rare now, so if you don't know what they are, I can't blame you. Chaozu and Tien were packaged together. Chaozu was unpainted green plastic, and years ago I just plain decided to paint Tien so he'd look better. My standards were lower back then, so I went ahead and covered up the green/yellow/red where it wasn't supposed to be and repainted those colors after doing that. I don't know what skin color I used back then, so I didn't risk adding another coat. After finishing all that, I put clear on top, and they are both now protected. Concerning Chaozu, his yellow socks/leggings weren't part of his sculpt, so I just had to freehand them on there. I originally planned to paint all of the kits, but we'll see if that ever happens. Over a decade ago I sprayed primer on Tien and that made painting him easier, but I should have put tape over the ball joints on the arms because they are stiff and one breaks off its peg often when I move it (a common problem with these kits in the first place--weak shoulder and hip joints partially because the ball sockets are extremely tight). Many coats of paint later, here they are. i975.photobucket.com/albums/ae234/Brangeta/IMG_6540.jpgi975.photobucket.com/albums/ae234/Brangeta/IMG_6539.jpgi975.photobucket.com/albums/ae234/Brangeta/IMG_6538.jpgi975.photobucket.com/albums/ae234/Brangeta/IMG_6537.jpgi975.photobucket.com/albums/ae234/Brangeta/IMG_6536.jpgi975.photobucket.com/albums/ae234/Brangeta/IMG_6535.jpgi975.photobucket.com/albums/ae234/Brangeta/IMG_6534.jpgThis is the entire, finished collection of all of the existing kits. There are some weapons not pictured, but those weapons don't make much sense anyway (I think it's funny that Krillin and Goku come with police batons). Great models worth collecting if you can find them all (the Goku and Krillin are much, much, much rarer than the other 4). This is the only figure of Bulma in her Boss Rabbit/meet Yamcha outfit that I know of other than the Popy Magnet Action one. It's neat that Yamcha comes with an alternate head. I think perhaps I'll eventually at least paint Roshi's pants pieces to all match, and the same with Yamcha. The stickers on Yamcha have always been a problem too, they won't stay stuck on his chest and boots.

Awesome. Chiaotzu is really cool and Tien's paint application is once perfect. If all of those, which are 5 inch scale? Chiaotzu? Oolong? Turtle? Puar? Roshi? I'm pretty sure Tien, Yamcha, Krillin, Goku, and Bulma are all too tall.

Completely redoing all four of those small characters was definitely worth it. Even though Chaozu looks ok in that pic, he looked so crappy in person. Getting good coverage with white over that green plastic was such a pain. Probably 12 layers of white paint, including the old ones that were on there already.
Using a 0.3 lead mechanical pencil to draw the eyebrows and lines around his eyes simplified my life too... and it looks better than painting them. Pencil on white for the win...

Probably had to be gentle with it to not scrape paint.

The pencil? Not too gentle. Works well on dry paint. Tried it on Oolong and it looked horrible though, which is part of why I redid his skin the same day I posted (and deleted the pics I took). This is what he looked like before the redo. I mostly redid him because he was too pink. The pencil worked well on his clothing.

I'd probably do this professionally if I could make a living doing it. It's a shame that just isn't possible.

BranverineDifficulty: 8/10 How to make: This is actually a funny/interesting/unfortunate story I have to share, so if you don't normally read what I say here, you might want to this time . I was Wolverine for Halloween for two years in a row. In 2009, I made a pretty weak/easy attempt to be him. Ironically, on the day of Halloween in 2009, I had to get something at Target and so, as usual, I walked down the toy aisle while I was there. I kind of chuckled when I "saw myself" and some kid was like when I walked down the aisle dressed like Wolverine. Took a pic on my phone. i975.photobucket.com/albums/ae234/Brangeta/SSPX1567.jpgThis wasn't the figure I actually ended up purchasing though. Moving on to 2010, I went all out for Halloween, and I worked on the Wolverine accessories and stuff much more, and did a fun photoshoot where I did the poses Hugh Jackman did in the promotional shots for the movie. After Halloween, I ended up at Target, apparently on 11/10/10, and I found a Wolverine figure that was supposed to look like Hugh Jackman as Wolverine (it didn't) and I figured, what the heck, I'll go ahead and buy it for $8 (or whatever) and make a custom figure of myself dressed as Wolverine as a joke. I immediately started customizing the figure. I finished almost everything by 11/19/10, but I lost interest, put it in the package, and never touched the figure again until this week in 2014 when I decided to finish what I started. So that's what I did, I finished it. But here's the unfortunate, ironic, interesting part. I was looking for "before" pictures to use of the figure, because I wasn't sure I took any in 2010 or would be able to find them (I did find pics I took of him out of the package today). So I looked at ebay last night. Oddly... not a single one of this specific figure was on there. I looked at completed. Nothing. Not a loose one... not one in the package. I googled, and I found out that the figure was part of phase 4 of the releases for the movie (the last phase of releases), and was released in September 2009, which was waaaaaaaaaaay after X-men Origins was in theaters (keep in mind, that I didn't buy the figure until November 2010... over a year after it had been released... and it was still at Target for some reason). Only Wolverine and Colossus were released in phase 4. I thought... ok... interesting... does that mean it's rare? And then I found one for sale on a website. $109 I spent like... $8 ... In 5 years it has gone up in price over ten times and is apparently the rarest and most valuable figure from this line of figures . That's like accidentally customizing a Jakks Nuova Shenron or Omega Shenron . Except this figure sucked. The face looked nothing like Hugh Jackman, and certainly nothing like Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. It did have a good body sculpt, which is why I bought it in the first place. Anyway, let's get on with the pics... I played with it a little bit, so I damaged the paint in the joints, but I don't really care. Before and After shots I scanned the artwork in the package, identified the fonts, made things sort of match, and printed replacements. Comparisons to me I got the proportions and locations of things on my face pretty well established. I sanded the muscles down as much as I could without compromising the joints. Packaged. i975.photobucket.com/albums/ae234/Brangeta/IMG_6569.jpgRotation pics. i975.photobucket.com/albums/ae234/Brangeta/IMG_6548.jpgi975.photobucket.com/albums/ae234/Brangeta/IMG_6556.jpgi975.photobucket.com/albums/ae234/Brangeta/IMG_6554.jpgi975.photobucket.com/albums/ae234/Brangeta/IMG_6553.jpgi975.photobucket.com/albums/ae234/Brangeta/IMG_6552.jpgi975.photobucket.com/albums/ae234/Brangeta/IMG_6551.jpgi975.photobucket.com/albums/ae234/Brangeta/IMG_6550.jpgi975.photobucket.com/albums/ae234/Brangeta/IMG_6549.jpgClaws out. I made the claws out of paper clips and drilled holes to insert them into the hands. The original plastic claws looked so stupid. i975.photobucket.com/albums/ae234/Brangeta/IMG_6562.jpgi975.photobucket.com/albums/ae234/Brangeta/IMG_6565.jpgi975.photobucket.com/albums/ae234/Brangeta/IMG_6560.jpgFun

Ready for it? ....what a Bransformation! Now that I can see closer pics of him and next to the original, I can truly see the effort and precision you put into him. He actually does look like you a bit. I think there's a little too much pink on the skin, but his shape is in perfect accordance to yours. Oh man, 2009, 2010....those were the days! LOL to the DBE scene.

Oh yeah, the reason I used so much pink on the skin is because I was sunburnt in the pics. You can see my wife beater tan lines lol.

You made yourself! Awesome! The DBE stuff is pretty funny.
You're right though, the original doesn't look like Hugh Jackman. It looked like a Superman face with chops, lol.
Great work! Crazy how that particular figure ended up being worth the most of that line.
