I will never buy any of these, simply because I think they are a ripoff. As collectibles, there seems to be a lot better choices. The World of Nintendo line is really promising and seems to only be increasing the number of new figures coming out as they sell better and better. Especially, when the World of Nintendo figures are cheaper than a single amiibo. Figuarts is, also, putting out nice Mario figures. Then, you have all the other gashapon and figurine lines.
Another reason is because I just disagree with the way Nintendo is trying to do basically DLC. If Nintendo is going to start using these essentially as DLC to unlock features of all future games, it would be pretty damn sucky and downright scummy of them to purposely sell lower numbers of highly demanded characters/content and make store exclusives and other stuff. Because, then you end up having to pay scalper prices for what is essentially something that Nintendo could offer for download at a single price to everyone, easily. That just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Even if Nintendo starts to sell the cheaper "cards" like they suggested, which they seem to be taking their sweet time to make. That's still tying it to something physical you have to go and try to find in the store. Why can't they just make it actual DLC like everyone else? They should give people the option of easily buying the game content separate and easily from the online store. Even other games' preorder store-related content normally becomes available to all people online after a set amount of time has passed.
As for the articulated amiibo, Anthony made that using some random hobby joints and World of Nintendo Link joints. You can just buy the World of Nintendo Link, better paint and articulation and accessories, and the price is less.

I agree with most of your post. I do think they are way too expensive and I hate the store exclusives and how some are so hard to find. I guess that builds hype and demand for the line, similar to Figuarts not being reissued. Still seems dumb not to re release certain Amiibos when Nintendo could make more money by doing so instead of the scalpers profiting, but whatever.
As for DLC, the Amiibos for the most part just add little bonus features, not really anything major someone would miss out on by not getting them. I haven't even used any of my Amiibo for SSB Wii U because the feature seems basically pointless to me. I don't think these will replace traditional DLC. Mewtwo is being given to people who bought both versions of SSB for free, and can be purchased for those who didn't. So at least they aren't making you buy a Mewtwo Amiibo in order for you to play as him.
