I've never heard someone call a part of texas(which I'm guessing is the top square part) the panhandle.

Texas here too. The panhandle. I think I asked before, but what town? Amarillo. Gohan, the panhandle is just kind of what we call the region in north Texas because it resembles a frying pan handle.
