Hey there,
Looking for figures of teen Goku, how he appeared at the 23rd Tenkaichi at the end of the original DB series. This would be the grown-up Goku, with the orange ki, black undershirt, blue wristbands, etc. I know there's the SoH figure, and I have the Banpresto Sofubi set with Piccolo from that fight, but what else? The darker undershirt and youthful sculpt are musts!
Anything bigger than a gashapon?

I think it's all preference really. I mean, the Irwin and Jakks figures were super mass produced. The most overused word in toy collecting these days is "rare."
"Is this rare?"
Did you just get it at Walmart?
"Yeah.."
Then no, it's not 'rare.' Popular maybe, but not rare.
So I'm with you. I'd open an Irwin or a Jakks if I had a certain display I wanted to build, wanted to have a little fun, or if I just plain wanted to. Why the hell not, I mean, it's not a 1985 POTF Star Wars figure...

Second 1992 SBC 3 pack came in yesterday, nothing out of the ordinary yet something that I have always wanted since I was younger. Additionally, I received Vol. 1-4 of the Bandai 1995 mini figures. Same ones in my avatar, but these are the Japanese releases that include alternate heads, halos, and mystic Gohan's z sword that is nowhere to be found with the American and European carded releases. Pure 90's nostalgia. Awesome! Love everything in that photo. It's the 90's BanDai stuff that gets me super excited. Did you see my post on this forum? Just got my fifth 3-pack back from AFA. They graded it and sealed it away in a protective case. Love that thing, always been my favorite DBZ toy.

Dang. A lot of hate on these gems. This set was always a favorite of mine. Back in the DBZ boom from 99-02, these were pretty desired, and while some were easier to get than others, the 04 two-pack was a tough piece to get. I've always been partial to them though. The boxes were cool. from the shoebox design to the box art, and then there's my love for vinyl toys as well. But let me be a dork and do a quick run down:
01: Actually one of my least favorites. Everyone says it's a superior sculpt, and while the body is good, I never loved the hair. The top piece was pretty thin, and threw off the whole look for me. Was the only hair peeve I had until Irwin released their version with the reversed do. I loathed that.
02: Hands down, if not thee favorite, it's certainly one of my favorite DB figures ever made. I always loved this design for Vegeta. The dark blue jumpsuit, the white sleeveless armor without the straps. Just a cool look. Not many figures were made like this. The only posable one besides this was made by Jakks, but it was battled damaged and the jumpsuit wasn't dark enough.
03: The face may be a little off, the arm articulation is like nothing I've ever seen, but for a loooooong time it was the only battle-damaged DBZ figure out there, and for vinyl, it was pretty badass.
04: For a long time, it was the only bald Krillin figure out there. Sure it was off scale, but it was still pretty cool.
05: Only gripe was how much taller it was than the normal Vegeta! But I always found the SSJ Vegeta in armor kinda boring, visually. Not just the figure, but the character as a whole.
06: Classic looking Piccolo. Removable cape, soft vinyl goodness. How can you go wrong?
07: Trunks! Blue hair, but still, really, really cool.
08: So many people couldn't get the SBC 3-pack, so this was a cool piece to have. People rag on the head sculpt as the culprit for making this figure look "off", but I think maybe it's the jacket color. What would it look like if it were purple? Imagine that!
09: An anime colored SSJ Gohan with a removable cape?! This figure rocked.

These are really cool! A seller recently threw in the 01 Goku as a bonus for buying a bunch of HSCF figures from him. It was a cool little bonus, really like the figure. So how were these sold? Stupid question, but were they actually stuck onto the bottle caps or was it a mail offer?

Yeah that sucks. I wish the anime ones were cheaper. I caved on the Gohan. I had to have it. I'm a sucker for those colors. All the old DBZ stuff was always painted with a crappy purple and the red sash. The SBC, the FAP, the only figure available in the anime colors was the Super Collection vinyl one that wasn't in scale with anything. It wasn't until Irwin made theirs that it was fixed in the regular scale. So here we are with Figuarts years later and it's the same crap, manga colors only. Whatever, I'm glad I have it, despite dropping like 220 on it.

No it's surprising to me too. I think there's some mystique behind the Arlian Vegeta. Besides the gashapons, stuff in that scheme have been tough to get. The Jakks version was in a later two-pack that not everyone saw on shelves, the Funko Pop went to Toy Tokyo for NYCC which is by far the worst choice in the way they handle their business, and the Figuarts went through Comic-Con. Vegeta may be more popular than Piccolo, being a Saiyan, Goku's rival in nearest power and Trunk's dad, but for these figures, who wouldn't want the SDCC Piccolo?? It's awesome. If I had to choose which one I'd want it's a Piccolo that appeared throughout the ENTIRE anime over a Vegeta that appeared in like 2-3 episodes.

Ordered this guy for $90 from imageanime last month. They shipped mine out, but then raised the price to $150!! Whew, dodged that bullet.

Hey guys, know this probably belongs in the 'Check it out' topic above, but I'm taking a bit of a liberty here. Hope this is ok with the mods. Anyway, just got this sucker back from the AFA today. I have owned five of these 3 packs in my lifetime. This is the only one I've have left. It's been laying flat in a cabinet for years, and I really wanted to find a way to protect it. After seeing someone get some Figuarts graded on another thread, I reached out to AFA and asked them to consider this one for grading. I'm not so much about using AFA for resale purposes, but I knew they'd custom fit a UV-resistent acrylic case for this. I really just wanted to protect it and seal it away more than anything, but I'm thrilled with the results and final grading. It ranked an 85, not too shabby for a 23-year-old item. They averaged in the condition of the box, the window and the paint on the figures, which all scored an 85. 100's in any toyline are almost unheard of, and 90's or 95's usually come from case fresh 'uncirculated' figures. So scoring an 85 was pretty much the best I could do, and I'm ecstatic it got so high. I mean, maybe I could've gone for a 90 had this not sat away collecting dust and whatnot for so many years, but I doubt it would have anyway. The majority of mint vintage toys will score an 85, which equates to a grade of NM+. They said this is the only one in the world that's been graded, and hope this doesn't come off snarky, but being their strict grading routine and the fact that so many of these have either had the tape peel off/cut off or been opened at least once, I don't know if another would come along this high. Check out the pictures below:

Wow thank you! Really appreciate the feedback on this one. Have had these figures for about 15 years and it's nice to know a little more about them. Never thought much except hey, a cool little set I found, but as the years have gone by and having never seen this set for sale, I got a little curious about them.

Ah, just got these guys out of storage. The more I look at them, the more I like them. Who said you need to be modern with 1000 points of articulation to be cool? Should add these figures are tiny. Maybe 2 inches and made of either rubber or hard plastic.

Hi all, Forgive me if these have been posted somewhere in the Japanese checklist forum, but I haven't seen these particular ones anywhere, nor have I really ever seen them for sale online. I haven't looked specifically for them, just know the only time I've run across these figures is when I bought them. Got these at a deeply missed import shop back in 2000. What makes the mini figures unique from the gashapon or Yutaka versions is the die-cast accessories that clip onto each figures. - SSJ Goku is in his Yardrat attire and it clips on fully on both sides.
- SSJ Trunks has a clip on jacket on both sides
- 19 has a clip on vest, both sides, and a removable hat
- King Kold has a clip on tail and die-cast armor on both sides
- Coolest of all, no pun intended I swear, is the Cooler figure, in his fourth form, with a removable tail, and die-cast clip on armor to make it the fifth form. Looks like the chest armor is again front and back

Well at least I know it exists! I mean, I knew it had to, but at least there's some confirmation out there!
