Looks like the scale isn't as bad as it seemed to be, it just has the same problem Kid Goku has, the head makes the entire figure look out of scale.

Kid Goku's head is twice as big as the SDCC Goku's head. It's so disappointing to see, mostly because I think everything else looks perfect, reallly perfect. It looks so great in that pic with the SDCC Goku...yet the head is all huge. Honestly, I don't understand why anyone would ever want strict adherence to the original Dragon Ball art when it just makes the line (largely consisting of Z figures) more inconsistent. Kid Goku has been shown with updated proportions many times and the design looks perfectly fine.

Honestly, the only thing wrong with it in my eyes is the oversized head. The body proportions are actually quite good. With a smaller head, it wouldn't look so out of scale. I don't really think it ruins the figure, though, I'm still seeing an amazing figure.
almost forgot...no stoic face? That's bizarre. I really can't see a second version of Kid Goku coming out (even though a blue gi release would make sense), so why would they leave out a main generic face?

I never thought I'd see the day where the SDCC exclusive is difficult to determine. As great as a Premium Color (anime) Nappa would be, personally, I'd much rather see an Awakening Goku recolor with a pale orange skin tone. It would be great to have that figure updated, especially since the new Goku will be coming out around SDCC.

your perspective won't change anything I've said about the kits. Plus, if you're truly happy with the kits despite what people say about them, why bother crusading against those who are critical?

this is one instance where I just can't complain. Tien is yet another figure they could have skipped entirely. I could understand if the faces were a complete disaster but they aren't. They're perfectly accurate to how Tien looked during the saiyan saga. Now, would I have preferred eye stamps that are accurate to the sharper art in late DBZ and DBS? Certainly, and I'd say that about every figure. With the exception of Dragon Ball figures, I desperately wish they'd stop using the early anime sagas as source material (IF that's what Tamashii does, I'm only assuming that's what they do). Despite that, I can live with this Tien.

cmon figure rise, step your game up, figuarts just released a bunch of new prototypes make different characters please, or at the very least make different versions of the characters you want to compete with figuarts with. Bandai ain't in the business of competing with itself. They are catering to two very different markets with their figures and model kits, you can tell by a lot of the figuarts fans constant bashing of these model kits, some people feel the need to hate on them unnecessarily. Yeah we get it, you think Figuarts are the best, you see someone give a decent review of a figure rise on YouTube and all you see is comments saying they aren't as good as Figuarts, buy Figuarts instead! It's hardly unnecessary. If trash is trash, why should people pretend as if it isn't trash? If I hate the model kits, it's because I had high hopes for them. I love building model kits and always enjoy inspecting the designs. Throw in optional parts and make it so the heads can go on multiple bodies, I'm very happy (it's mostly why I'm still a fan of the Figuarts line despite the many flaws - optional heads/hands/faces have become essential to me). I see that the variant Gokus are all compatible with each other. The skin tones don't match (which is bad) but it's amazing that if you have five different Gokus with different heads and gis, you can swap the heads around and have automatic variants. That's great. BUT...but...then you see the model kits and how awful they look, and all enthusiasm goes out the window. Frankly, I'm surprised I haven't seen more complaints from model kit fans. As far as I'm aware, Bandai model kits typically have superb likenesses. (and, even if that isn't always the case.....) A figure/model kit can be well designed (as far as the engineering goes) AND an aesthetic failure (which is what the model kits are, and that's exactly what they SHOULDN'T be). I said this earlier and I'll say it again - I don't want to buy interpretations, I want to buy accurate (or at the very least, expertly crafted) recreations. I believe the FR kits are designed digitally and if this is the case, subpar designs are unacceptable. Digital design has made it VERY easy to achieve amazing sculpts. Since the standard Figure-Rise line has such terrible sculpts, something Bandai would have to go out of their way to make if the kits were made digitally, just what is the reason for that? Is it so they can double dip and return to the Master Grade line in the future with better character accuracy AND higher prices? Well, I don't think anyone would argue that this is a good thing. TL;DR - I'm ready and willing to buy DBZ model kits but not when they look bad.

other bulma figures will come one day for sure if this one is popular. therein lies the problem. I see this Bulma and I see a Bulma that may not sell well (as opposed to any other design which might fare better). People will surely buy it because it's Bulma. What about the people who don't care about Dragon Ball designs (realistically speaking, that's a lot of people)? If this one doesn't sell well, what reason would they have to make another one? then again...this version could turn out to be a web exclusive...

Well, it was possible to do head swaps with Super Saiyan God Goku sooo... yeah but one of the figures will have a loose head. only way to find out is to wait I don't necessarily have my hopes up that head swaps will be possible but it looks like it might be possible. It seems the new Goku has the same hair as the SSG Goku and as far as I know, they've never updated hair parts to fit new pegs, they just made new parts. --- So...Bulma...while it's great that they acknowledged the demand, it's really confusing that they went with this design. Hopefully, it isn't on their release schedule - I'd imagine most people would be interested in getting the DBS design.

I don't know if I've ever ranted about it here but I've always been bothered by the 2.0 waist parts. SS3 and SSG Goku were slight improvements but they still weren't ideal, especially since the waist made them both shorter than the old Goku figures. I'm surprised they changed the waist yet excited to see it. Frankly, they've perfected the waist/leg design now. I can only hope they improved the arms as well (the butterfly swivels just don't work, they have a limited range of movement and pull the arms too deeply into the chest).
and Buu...seriously awesome, that's the one release I've always doubted due to the size.
actually...a few more thoughts about the Goku now that I've looked at it a little more...WOW. That color scheme is amazing. Is it the first truly character accurate 2.0 figure? I really think it is. That skin tone seems to be, dare I say, perfect. Aside from what I said about the butterfly swivels, I really hope this comes with a lot of faces.

Has anyone had any luck making a custom Trunks in the Broly movie outfit with the tank top and no jacket long haired SS Trunks? In the Irwin Jakks scale. Also I was wondering if what anyone thought of making some of the obscure Korean and Taiwanese DragonBall live action movie villains but in the animated style? I was in the process of making one around five years ago. Never finished it though. It had very basic articulation but was easy to make. I also had another idea in mind that would have utilized the UFS Trunks bootleg...it would have been a combination of real and fake UFS parts and an Irwin Trunks head. don't think the long hair head would have fit, though.

You'd be better off tracking down the Giochi SS4 Goku. I can't find any pics of it next to Irwin figures but if I remember correctly, it fits in much better than the Jakks SS4 Goku. Problem is, I'm seeing some on eBay and they're all over $60 (which might be the amount you'd end up paying to get the right fodder for the SS4 Gok custom you mentioned, so...maybe easy to justify?)
