While I own the entirety of both Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z in their manga form, the same cannot be said about the Dragon Ball Z anime. I don't have a lot of money, but I've been slowly collecting the 90's/2000's single releases as they're cheap and common in my area. I don't like the Orange Bricks, but I was gifted the first two seasons, and they're a much more convenient way of collecting the series. So, by question is this...
The upcoming 30th anni blu ray set is nearly $400, and you won't see it for cheap because of its limited nature. I know if I don't like mine when it comes, there's no way I'm reselling it for less than I paid. The Rock the Dragon box set was a small release several years ago too, and that $60 set is now over $200 now. Orange bricks are a dime a dozen and there's tons of them. They can be had as cheap as $8 a set sometimes.
The only reason I would ever suggest the single releases is if you were trying to collect the Pioneer/Ocean dub that stopped halfway through the Namek Saga. The Rock the Dragon box set is so expensive now, that surely those super unpopular single releases could be had for much cheaper. But the ordeal of collecting all of them would surely suck. The majority of people don't want the single releases. I've seen them at a used book store locally for as cheap as $3 each, but they are almost always the DVD that had Ginyu dressed as Goku on the cover lol.
