Oh Boy, Richie, in my opinion this is your most amazing find as of today. (yes, there are TTF, Zeem and double chances that are less in numbers, but at least we always knew for certain they exist)
No offense, but your comment "None of which have ever been photographed or circulated online, until now!" is kind of wrong. ^^ One of them appeared online a couple of years ago. See THIS thread.
At that time I was honestly quite sceptical about the authenticity of the figure. There are quite some minor differences between the figure and the promoted picture. Someone skilled in figure custumization might easily be able to pull this of. Further, no one was able to find the alleged yahoo auction where the figure was sold.
Now, yours looks exactly like the one that appeared years ago, which finally confirms this story for me. Or did you happen to buy this exact one?
It's great that they start to resurface after all those years. Makes me get my hopes up to maybe even owning one myself one day. If you ever want to let go of yours or come across another one, don't hesitate to contact me. ^^
Would you share how you got yours? Did it come with some packaging or a COA or something additionally to the figure?
EDIT: After reading your comments in your Facebook group, I understand that you did not acquire the figure, but just shared some pictures of you being face to face with one of the grails, right? So, is this actually the same figure that was presented in the ameblo blog?
It's so hard to believe it actually exists! I've been online, reading "it doesn't exist" from other people since 2001 and repeating the same thing. I had never seen one when I looked through ebay or when I browsed Yahoo Japan. And back in the day, I used to look at YJ every day, because I was in high school and I had the time and interest. I was fascinated by what cool stuff was in Japan that couldn't be found on ebay. There were collectors like soda and kkchung who actually wanted to own one of these mythological legends, but they never found one as far as I know. So seeing one finally surface, with definite claims it is legitimate (this one I was highly skeptical about and I don't know if it's the same one or not, I assume it is...?). But seeing one is like finding a surviving Dodo bird or the Lochness Monster to me. It's so hard for me to believe it is real, especially since the pants are darker red than the promo image and the collar has changed color so much, and the fact that the regular orange gi version of this is still easy to get, but if two separate ones have actually emerged... then I'll definitely believe it. It would be so much easier to believe it was 100% real if a regular SS Goku in orange gi didn't exist, because literally, all the Yardrat Goku version is, is different clothes on that exact same figure. I want to believe, but I'm still at least 10% skeptical, because I want to see like... a scan of a photo from back then of someone receiving the figure at the movie or whatever... or something else that validates it in some way.
Everything else I'd type would mostly be a repeat of what I already typed here:
Gee, I don't know what to think about this. Akira you'll want to see this. I saw carnage6 talking about this figure on youtube last night. I think Goshin owns some FAPs, but I can't remember her member name on here so I can't tag her. Adrenaline and gqkrillin may have some interest in this too.
So let's go through this with some story. I've been collecting since 1998, and collecting online since I joined the original Dragonballtoys.com message board in 2001. I've never seen this Yardrat Goku figure. We all thought it was a myth. Back then, many people considered it a holy grail, because there weren't many DBZ figures to choose from and this one was highly unusual--Goku in a costume other than orange and blue.
I've never liked Full Action Pose (FAP) figures, so I've never paid them a lot of attention. I only have two pictures on my harddrive, one of all three known figures, and one scan or picture of the ad showing SS Yardrat Goku. I've attached those images to this post. Here is a different scan that Kanzenshuu has:
In 2002 or 2003, DBT member KKChung mailed me a bootleg FAP SS Goku he wanted me to make into a Yardrat Goku. This was unfortunate that he did this, because he didn't ask me ahead of time. I can't sew. So I had to mail the figure back and not do anything with it. The bootleg looked identical to the real figure as far as I know. I wasn't very fond of it. It was pretty ugly, just like this SS Yardrat Goku one.
Anyway, I'm analyzing and comparing the pics of this figure to what was probably a prototype in the ad. First of all, the neck thing looks terrible, but I'm sure you all noticed that. The prototype has a lilac colored one and this figure has a khaki or taupe colored one. I think the one on the figure would look the shape of the one in the ad if they pulled it apart and styled it. Something I never thought of, is that the prototype has that weird wrinkly piece of white fabric beneath the armor, just like this figure does. The chest armor on this figure looks very good. Much smoother and "factory painted" looking than I would expect from someone trying to create a fake. The waist armor though has the yellow lines spaced out much further apart than the prototype. The wrist things on the prototype are much lighter brown than on this figure, this figure has peanut butter colored ones. The pants on this figure are much darker than the pants on the prototype. The boots seem to be the same as what the regular SS Goku has, but the laces are just frayed a bit.
So is this real? Maybe. I have always said that this figure couldn't possibly be something that was 1 of 100, because we would have seen one come up for sale. Well, now we apparently have. Or have we? Is it possible that only a few were made? Less than 100? Is this one real or a fake?
