So I'm going to come right out and say this: While there are a LOT of problems in Dragonball GT, I have to admit that one of the best things that came out of it was Super Saiyan 4. It's a form that encapsulated the power of the Oozaru (something we kind of abandoned with the original SS transformation) but still allowed each character who used it to maintain their own sense of identity, and yet still felt like a step up from what had come before. the physics of the clothing aside, it's basically a perfect transformation. Heck, I'd go so far to say it's still one of my favorites, even with all the baggage of GT.
The only problem, and this is something that's only been underlined by Dragonball Super... it's not really Super Saiyan *4*. Where all the original transformations are all basically extensions of the original Super Saiyan transformation, SS4 has always existed off in its own little world separate from everything else. It's actually far closer to what Super Saiyan Blue is, a separate transformation that, while stronger, exists almost entirely outside the "normal" transformation line. In theory, Goku and the others could have achieved SS4 as early as the Future Trunks arc had any of them retained their tails. Vegeta in particular, since he'd been shown to be in full control over the Oozaru transformation already. It could theoretically have shown up before Super Saiyan 2, so saying it's the fourth SS transformation doesn't make much sense.
Granted, at this point there's no way it's going to be called anything else for most people, but the name has really started to bug me. I'd honestly rather call it something like "Super Saiyan Oozaru," just to give it its own separate identity.
