It looks as though the hair on this version is all one part, as opposed to individually articulated like on the original. However, that side-by-side with the Awakening Goku somehow gives me hope that
A. We can take the SSj3 head off the body and put the SWA Goku head on in its place. B. We can repaint the coming God Goku's head and essentially have a new base form Goku to hold us over. C. Super Saiyan 3 Goku's body will make any other Goku head look awesome.

This new release is way better than the original, no doubt on it. But i'm still disappointed, no paint shading at all on the body, and that color for the hair...

Something that I find hard to ignore is that the SS3 face is ugly. Considering Tamashii makes all the characters look much more attractive and perfect than they do in the manga/anime, it's hard to visually accept this face for what it is--a rather accurate to the artwork face. SS3 Goku was not supposed to be attractive and this does a good job of it. The figures don't look like DBZ artwork generally... but the SS3 Goku does. SS Goku in Frieza saga didn't look as perfect and model-like as the Awakening SS Goku figure in the above pic looked. He looked like this: and the SS3 Goku, to me, looks a lot like the SS3 Goku artwork from DBZ: An easy, specific example would be Saiyan Saga Vegeta. In the manga and anime, he looked a lot different than the more modern artwork. Seeing a manga/anime accurate Vegeta in the Figuarts line would be kind of weird among all the other figures. This SS3 Goku's faces are somewhere between the Buu Saga, pretty refined artwork, and the modern, ultra refined artwork, which isn't a HUGE difference. But I don't think they made his face look as modern as Awakening SS Goku for example. They still left some manga/anime flavor in it. I think that's perhaps pretty darn good, but I think it's going to be something a lot of people don't really like. Attachment Deleted

I really dig the sculpt for this figure, my only nitpicks sculpt wise would be with the hair. Judging by the side by side comparisons it's literally just the hair mold from the original figure. Even though it doesn't look bad I feel like they could've done better. Such as giving the hair more definition lines or lengthening it a bit.
Honestly other than that the only problems I have with it are color based. He has practically no shading what so ever, his colors look good but not for SSJ3. The colors on his Gi would look great on a base form or regular SSJ Goku figure but look pretty out of place on this one. Also his hair color is way too yellow, it needs to be toned down a bit.

At the end of the day, in terms of paint apps, the original (in my opinion, please don't hurt me!) is superior. There was shading and it gave off a true sense of Super Saiyan 3 Goku. I don't think the new one looks like that. Now, that's just coming from my point of view (as I don't own the new one currently) and I can't say much, but I'll buy it and give it a fair review.

why does it not look like the matte orange I dunno. As usual, very strange choices from the guys at Figuarts. I think they are lowering the level of quality of the line. Tne new vegeta, Nappa, this goku SS3, are all below the usual level of quality of the line. Quite disturbing for the future.

Finch It seems like the more accurate the sculpts become the worse the paint jobs get. I really hope they start putting more effort into painting future figures. It'd really suck if Tien and Yamcha get really lackluster paint jobs.

sc4recrow1687 Yes, I agree. I re sold my Vegeta when I saw the paint job. My first version is way better.

He looked like this: and the SS3 Goku, to me, looks a lot like the SS3 Goku artwork from DBZ: That SS3 Goku pic you posted looks better than the figure does. This SS3 figure looks good but his face is definitely a bit chubby. And it also makes sense to model Vegeta's height after the more recent artworks, it'd be ridiculous imo to try and replicate the artstyle in the beginning of the show since the artstyle has evolved a lot. It would also make things even more inconsistent.. Canonically, I don't think Vegeta actually grew 2 feet as the show went on. Also I'm pretty sure Tamashii is just trying to replicate how the characters are supposed to look/their best looking moments. Goku looked like that in the Freeza saga because of whoever did the art for the episode. Goku in the Freeza saga, I'd imagine is supposed to look like this: static.comicvine.com/uploads/original/11119/111195325/4640702-5827347107-Super.jpg i295.photobucket.com/albums/mm132/Rob4lo/Goku_ssj_on_namek_manga_col_by_BK_8.jpg I think the figure captured it pretty well, but obviously it still won't be 1:1 when you're turning a 2D drawing into a 3D figure.
