I can't tell you how big I am smiling after this surprise!

Dragon Ball Gaiden: Tensei-shitara Yamcha Datta Ken ドラゴンボール外伝 転生したらヤムチャだった件 (“Dragon Ball Side Story: The Case of Being Reincarnated as Yamcha”)
Japanese publisher Shueisha has announced a new Dragon Ball spin-off series that has actually already debuts today in digital manga magazine, Shonen Jump Plus. This series is titled Dragon Ball Gaiden: Tensei-shitara Yamcha Datta Ken (“Dragon Ball Side Story: The Case of Being Reincarnated as Yamcha”) and re-imagines Yamcha as the hero of the Dragon Ball world. Specifically, an ordinary high school teenage boy falls into an accident and finds himself in the world of Dragon Ball, reincarnated in the body of Yamcha. With his knowledge of Dragon Ball, this boy trains hard to become the strongest hero in the world.
The manga is not written by Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama, instead it is written and illustrated by (to our understanding) a Dragon Ball fan turned official mangaka named Garow Lee. You can visit his Twitter here twitter.com/dragongarowLEE
There's actually nothing that says we won't! That last panel of him with Guru is a preview for the next issue! So the first issue ended with him defeating the Saibamen! He'll probably still take on Nappa and Vegeta!!

Actually, I suspect most of the next issue will cover Yamcha's training leading up to the Saibamen thing, based upon what the text next to Guru says. That will probably lead into Yamcha's battle with Vegeta and Nappa.
Well we can tell he definitely survives the fight with Nappa and Vegeta, and so he definitely goes to Namek and gets to meet Guru. I can't wait to see what happens.
Did you notice that he never got his scars? Training with Master Roshi, Goku, and Krillin evidently prevented him from (years later) training (by himself?) and getting those scars before the ...22nd (?) Tenkaichi Budokai.
