I didn't think this was discussed elsewhere, and so I hope it is okay to make this topic. I was looking on BigBadToyStore.com since a decent amount of people on this forum like that website, and I wanted to compare its prices to Anime-Island (both websites I haven't shopped from before). I noticed that BBTS has collector's grade as an option for pre-orders for SH Figuart's Dragon Ball figures and I wasn't too sure what the difference is with standard grade figures. The information on BBTS said:
"Collector's Grade upgrade is available!
The item is brand-new, in mint condition, and sealed inside mint packaging.
Packaging condition is verified to be 90% mint (C9), or better.
If you upgrade, our warehouse will carefully choose items in mint condition.
Each item will be wrapped in a clear poly-bag for protection during shipping.
Collector's Grade items are meant to be displayed in their packaging.
Standard Grade items will be shipped if you don't need to upgrade.
The item is brand-new, in mint condition, and sealed inside its packaging.
Packaging condition is verified to be 80% mint (C8), or better.
Standard Grade items are suitable to display in the package, or to open."
Are collector grade figures much more valuable than standard grade? Also, do they look any different at all from stand grade figures? To upgrade to CG, I saw it was only 2 dollars. If they become more valuable over time, I think it would be a no-brainier to spend a little extra. What are the pros and cons of collector's grade figures that this beginner is unaware of? I see BBTS says CG figures are meant to be displayed in their packaging, but if I decided that I didn't mind the decline in value of an opened figure, it wouldn't be a big deal if I opened them right? Thank you for any assistance with this subject.
*Edit* I wanted to pre-order these upcoming SH Figuarts figures before they spike in price (Cell, Gohan, and Super Vegeta). Since I am new as a collector, I'm unfortunately too late to get several figures for under $100. So, this seems like a smart decision with pre-orders, and even more so if collector's grade is great.
