I've just recently started to collect and found it hard to find a tien. So I bought a MOC and ripped that sucker apart. imgur.com/odQ5brJAnyone buy a sealed figure just to open it?

I have a friend who collects He-Man figures, who got one of the vehicles misb. It was like an attack track or dragon walker or something. It had been kept sealed and was in a climate controlled storage locker so it was perfect. He ripped it open and threw the box away. People online were so incredibly shocked and angry, lol. Him and I are not misb collectors.

You're not the only one! me too or rather me three =P
I've taken so many figures out of their boxes and It's not only Dbz I'm referring to, rare ones included and I'm happy. ^^ Some like it MIB/MOC/NIB so that maybe they could sell them later and some don't intend on doing that so Voila box opened! It's just about personal preference but to reduce the guilt feeling you could probably save those boxes to re-sell(if ever) later. Some boxes are the easy to open and close types.
Bottom line... 'NJOY your purchase, bring out your colors, release your inner child, have fun and Rock The Dragon ~ Dragon Ball Z...Yaahhh!!! =D

Yeah I don't see cardboard as all that special to collect. "Hi I collect action figures" ....."cool!" "Hi I collect cardboard"............"wtf?" "But it has art and an action figure inside!"

i understand keeping more statuelike figures misb. Though action figures NEED to be opened! Why buy a poseable figure if you have no intention of posing it? thats just my take on it.

I've done that a few times, sometimes it feels horrible spending so much on it, just to do that, lol, but it was meant to be played with or displayed...

I personally only collect MIB figures, if I want to open it I'll buy two. But I'm fortunate enough that my budget allows for such things. If I ever know for a fact I want to open something I'll try to source one thats already opened.

I think it's all preference really. I mean, the Irwin and Jakks figures were super mass produced. The most overused word in toy collecting these days is "rare."
"Is this rare?"
Did you just get it at Walmart?
"Yeah.."
Then no, it's not 'rare.' Popular maybe, but not rare.
So I'm with you. I'd open an Irwin or a Jakks if I had a certain display I wanted to build, wanted to have a little fun, or if I just plain wanted to. Why the hell not, I mean, it's not a 1985 POTF Star Wars figure...

I got a Striking Z Fighter Trunks from a thrift store for two bucks, in the box. The box was beat up, so I cut the bottom of the plastic and slid the figure out. I have no regrets!

I tear open all of my figures, statues too. I don't see the point of keeping a figure in it's box. Sure the value stays higher but I don't collect to sell them later. I buy most of my figures MIB and the second I get them, I take em out. If the box is nice, I keep the box

But that is just me.

I kinda wanna thow some shade. I think MISB collectors are collecting for the wrong reason?? Like, if you want to collect to resell, cool. But then you dont really own anything. If your whole purpose of buying it is to sell it later, its more like you're borrowing the figure or something. I also feel that MISB collections looks tacky. TBH its kinda like a store. Who wants to own a store? I know i don't. I want a collection, full of opened figures

i take everything out of the box but that's because i actually play with my figures lmao htf am i supposed to host a tenkaichi budokai if everyone's stuck in plastic
i see the appeal of their packaging though? i mean it can look cool and official $wag etc... especially if you don't wanna play with them? obv only for packaging that has windows like if you can't see what's in the thing then whY u do that. just sell it already or give it to me

I had a spanish Ranger Smith Comics Spain figure, in package, this figure is impossible to find seal in package, but my packaged ripped the way i stored it in my closet. The figure itself is not rare but to find it in package, its probably the only one in package :/ i rely regret this one. As for DBZ, the one figure i opened was Minotia, But i had about 10 of them sealed which i got in a lot so i didn't regret. i really regret how i stored my Giant Goku and Gohan super sized figures re-released by irwin :/ i stored it in a box and put lose figures on top and the weight was to much so the plasic on the box caved in and the figures fell inside the Goku and Gohan package :/ that i truly regret. I should of stored it alone and not with lose figures on top of the box

I usually open everything I get, but I keep some video game merchandise in the package like cars and vintage stuff. I don't even have enough room to display everything loose so there's no way I'd be able to keep everything in the package.
