this may be a stupid question but i just thought of it when my mother mentioned something, everything i own is in my room (all of my collection of PLASTIC toys and games) and she is worried that being exposed to it for long periods of time could be bad for me (lie causing lung cancer and asthma) so my question is, is it safe? i'm pretty much always in my room (its where i hang out) I wouldnt think plastics would be bad unless they were knockoffs from china or heated and making fumes Branjita maybe you know? |

If your toys gave off dangerous fumes, they'd be recalled! Unless you have a buttload of a customs, you shouldn't have anything to worry about.

there's plastic everywhereee bruh this girl on my strange addiction would eat plastic and she's doin okay but i don't recommend that... but i mean as long as your room is ventilated and aired out i don't think it'll get too musty for ya  don't worry |

well, they think my room "smells" of plastic too, I don't smell anything unless its a hot day and the air is off

Dude, your mom is clearly a hypochondriac. Plastic is not weapons grade plutonium. It is not radioactive. In fact, it is a very stable compound. Unless you are inserting, consuming or come into contact for extended periods of time - then absolutely and categorically, no. Plastic will not kill you! Perhaps, cheap Chinese toys with with high concentrations of lead could trigger an asthma attack, but only if you put that crap in your mouth. I think your mom just wants you to get rid of your toys and it clutching at straws.

she does indeed want me to sell them lol, but she is mostly thinking because of the smell. I dont think its the plastic though, i think its something in the walls

It can be harmfuel into an extent if heated. Plastic does contain from oil and other dangerous chemicals. But that's a subject, warning of plastic use in food\water packings. Not from just being next to it.

Everybody else already said everything I'd say other than: some bootlegs are made with materials not considered safe, so unless you have a lot of bootlegs, then you're probably fine. You probably just need to vacuum.

well, her reasoning was something she saw about "PVC" but she doesnt realize industrial PVC is different than toy PVC. but yes, you have all made good points

Unless your entire collection happens to be Mexican bootlegs. Those absolutely reek.
When I was getting my various Mexican Beerus figures in the mail, most, if not all of them reeked of cheap plastic or some other similar smell.
Luckily though, the smell faded away after some time.

The worst bootlegs I have ever had were Super Battle Collection bootlegs and the smell of them would make you want to pass out. A lot of modern bootlegs like DWC and Chara Puchi don't have these problems thank God.

Oh, I can totally agree with cheap plastic smell making you want to pass out. There's this shopping center near where I live which has one of those cheap dollar stores set up next to one of the bigger retail chain stores...
It's. F***ing. Toxic.
One foot in the door and the smell just overwhelmed me. Holy sh*t. I felt as if I was on death's door and smelling death itself. I quickly looked around, trying not to gag or even vomit in the store to see if any funny bootlegs were lying around. As soon as I saw there were none, I made a beeline for the door, power-walked as far away as I could and tried to gulp in as much fresh air as I could.
The worst part was that there were families consisting of Mothers and their little kids walking around and examining various items. Understandably, they might have been lower-class families and were trying to find decent deals on merchandise but damn, I felt sorry for every single person in that store, including the person at the register.
How can I describe the smell? Worse than Mexican Bootlegs. Much, MUCH worse!

Geez I didn't think New Zealand was that bad. To have a shop that sells stuff that smells so bad I would assume it would have been in a third world country. I will say that cheap plastic does have one of the most off putting smells out there it's not one u can describe to someone that hasn't smelt it. Could you imagine working in a factory that makes those toys geez u would prob die without a face mask of some kind.
